hi, i'm new
i am looking into bariatric surgery. i asked my doc for a referral but he didn't know anything about the bariatric surgery program in manitoba. i had a friend get it done by st.boniface surgical associates so i told him to go through them - i wish i had come here first! apparently the program is now through the victoria hospital? do i need to go back to my doctor and give him the new info?
anyway, it's nice to meet all of you. i am so very new to all of this, i'd be grateful for any information you can share with me about WLS in manitoba.
thank you! with regards to the manitoba bariatric surgery program specifically, how many of you have done it?
is RNY the surgery they offer?
how long was it between your doctor's referral to the program's response?
how long between the response (an acceptance letter, presumably) to the first related appointment?
how long between the first appointment to the surgery date?
do you know what the specific requirements of the program are? i'm 38, BMI 43, non smoker, no comorbidities, female.
hello and welcome to our group.
the program is always evloving and requirements keep changing. The bari drs offer 2 different surgeries the VSG and the RNY
i can not reply to your other questions as i have been post op for almost 2 yrs now and my answers are not current.sorry
please feel free to ask anything here on the boards.we will answer as best we can from our own experiences.

I too just signed on here a few months ago and then lost my way back her until today! haha! Anyways, my doctor referred me to winnipeg in August, 2012. I got a letter in the mail saying I was accepted in october but the letter never gave me any other information. Like what the heck? Sooooo, I am guessing I wait for a new letter giving me a date for a consult? I called the victoria hospital and asked if they had any idea of a wait time .....she said she has no idea. Others have told me a year for a consult and 6 months after that for surgery....anyone else use winnipeg? Can't seem to really get any info....
oh thank you, it helps to know not to expect an acceptance letter for a couple of months. obviously i'm hoping to get accepted soon, though i understand the wait time between acceptance and getting the first appointments is probably going to be several months.
thank you everyone for the warm welcome!
