I am a bit confused as to why on a sleeve surgery, they completely remove the cut off stomach. But yet, in an rny , they leave it attached and staple it to the bowels. I don't have my info group.for a few more weeks. Does anyone know? Thanks!

I think the thought with removing the entire remnant stomach is to reduce the amount of gherlin it produces. Although the gherlin production is taken up by other organs and after a couple years you will have 1/2 the amount you had before not as reduced as fresh post op. With the sleeve it isn't reversible but why would you reverse it anyway? It's not an easy surgery to try to rehook up the intestines in RNY to reverse it. Not sure if they do anything with the old stomach with trying to reverse an rny....

I personally liked the idea of removing the extra stomach totally. I didn't like it sitting there , not knowing what was happening with it, but that is just me. I don't think it is an issue for most people.
