I'm new here
As the title obviously states, I am new to this site, and I am finding all posts and topics very encouraging. I am on day 6 of the pre op diet, and I am still having a tough-ish time with it. I think it's because it's a weekend. During the week I am at work, so I am busy thinking about other things, but it Saturday, and I am sitting at home, thinking about food. Dang! Oh well. I just take it one day at a time, because if I think of how much longer I have before surgery (Dec. 3rd) I feel discouraged, and like it will never come. My mon had the RNY surgery almost 2 years ago, so I have her as a support. Now she eats whatever she wants, but just in very small portions. She had managed to lose 100 pounds, and that was her goal. Mine is a bit more, but I will get there. Any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. I find that I am sleeping a lot to cope with feeling hungry. I am not as cranky as I was Monday. I am actually joking about how I am not eating at the moment. But it will all be worth it in the end!!
Hi! Welcome to the site!!
If you've made it through six days, you are almost halfway there. Just keep your eye on the prize.
I really sympathize with those of you who have to do the preop diet of liquids only for two weeks. I had my surgery in Mexico and on the two-week preop I was allowed to eat all the green vegetables I wanted and a meal of lean protein and vegetables for supper. I had liquids only for the last two days.
Are you drinking lots of water (plain or with Crystal Lite or other sugar free flavoring)?
You are right, it will all be worth it in the end. You're lucky to have someone close to you who has had the surgery who can be there for you and tell you what to expect. I hope the next ten days go by quickly for you. Best of luck!
Dianne

Welcome to our little world, this OH family has been a source of information and inspiration through my whole process. I am six weeks out on Tues and can still remember the sting of hunger and longing from the pre op liquid diet, it's like trial by fire! Hang in there, you WILL make it and you will be surprised by how much you will have lost. Pretty soon your clothes will be falling off and you'll be getting compliments left and right. Are you in the Winnipeg area? There are a few of us getting together on Thursday for a little meet and greet - you should come! I was so nervous the night before my surgery and was soooooo lucky Sondra, Lori and Barb made time to come have a tea with me and relate their experiences. Everyone had a little bit different experience but it was very comforting know what was going to happen step by step on "THE" day. There is one other lady who has never been to a meet and greet and PM'ed me to see if she could come, so you wouldn't be the only "newbie".
If you are interested, watch the thread on here (Hoping Rainyone or anyone can recommend a place as I am not from Wpg and I know nothing......)
To keep busy on the weekend, I took EVERY piece of clothing I had, stored in every drawer, every suitcase, rubbermaid container, etc and piled it on bed and sorted it into things to keep, things that won't fit next summer, things that I bought with the intention of "dieting" into them (LOL you know you have some!!!) and a bag of stuff to bring to the next M & G in case anyone needed some. Personally I came away with a HUGE bag of clothes at my last M & G - mostly 3x and 4x - and the ones that still are in good shape will be going back soon as they are getting HUGE!
But take care, even if you are not comfortable coming out you can always post here for help, someone somewhere can propably help.
Good Luck on your journey! You are half way through the pre-op diet and each day gets easier. I found the weekends the hardest too but you just have to keep yourself busy and think about the end result! I had my RNY on Nov. 7/12 and other than being tired am doing pretty good so far. Its nice that you have your mom to go to since she has had the same surgery. This website has been a great help for me when I have any questions as each day I am learning more!
Hellooo!!!
This site is awesome for tips, support and laughs!! I'm 2 weeks out from having surgery (VSG) . I went and bought some sugar free Caramel Torani Syrup and added that to the chocolate and vanilla Boost and (to me) it made a big difference.
Before you know it, it will the day of surgery and this diet will all be a big blur!
Good luck!!
Welcome to the group! Keep working at it one day at a time! Weekends are difficult as many said. I spent my weekend Christmas shopping and put up my tree. Kept me very busy! I'm having my surgery tomorrow and so today is my last day of the Boost diet. I drink tons of water all day to help not feel hungry. I haven't had too many moments of real hunger and when I do, it's about time to take my next boost. You are half way there and it gets better!
Losingforlife,
All the best tomorrow on your surgery, I trust it will go well. Remember to walk after surgery to help feel good, and relax and enjoy the pampering. It will be nice for you to come home to a house all decorated for Christmas. I had my sleeve 3 weeks ago and still it feels unreal. Take Care
