My biggest fear is the catheter. What is it like

I never had a catheter or any kind of drain.

I've inserted hundreds of them and most people are surprised that it isn't as bad as they thought it would be. The only reason you would have one would be if you can't pee on your own after surgery which is somewhat uncommon . Then most likely they would do a "straight cath" which means they insert/drain and remove right away.
