Hi!
I'm new to the forum and I have been reading some of the posts. I'm scheduled for my surgery on Nov. 27 so I'll be starting my pre-op diet on Nov. 13. I know that it will be torture to go through. I'm hoping that I can sleep a lot to get the days to go by faster! How do you get through 2 weeks of Boost and water? Oh yeah! And vitimins!!
boost and water? hmmm. makes me wonder where you are having your surg done? what type of surg are you having? whos your surgeon? and thats so close! thats awesome! my advice, as im sure most will tell you, is all you have to do is 2 things after surg, walk when you can and sip, repeat, sip walk, sip walk, sip walk, lol if you do those 2 things you will do great! welcopme aboard, we will clear a spot on the losers bench for you!

Well there are a few more options on the pre-op diet plan that I was given. My surgery is in Winnipeg and the other liquids allowed are: sugar-free kool-aid, crystal light, other low calorie drink powders, diet soda black coffee or clear tea. The staples for the diet though are Boost Diabetic and water.
I am on the "new program". I actually started my journey 1.5 years ago but I stalled on booking the surgery. They told me to call when I was ready and so when I called, I fell into this new program. Its being run out of the Victoria Hospital. I met with a team a couple of times and now I have a surgery date! I am nervous and excited. Reading other posts has already been helpful. I am looking forward to the meeting tonight!
welcome to our group.i know from experiance the first few days are always the worst.I didnt have to do the boost as i was early in the manitoba program.they have changed twice what you need to have now.
like seeking freedom said we need more information to comment on your post.i am assuming that you are having it done in manitoba.
good luck and i hope to read more posts from you and possibly even meet in person at a meet and greet or one on one

I have been on the Boost since last Wednesday..... it is not nearly as bad as you think it is going to be! I enjoy the boost and find that I am really not that hungry. I think the worst part is just your head telling you that you want to eat something but you need to focus on the big picture and where this is going to get you. I drink lots of water and crystal light in between my boosts. And as an added bonus I have lost 9 lbs. since I started the boost!
Just a heads up to everyone, I HAD to use Boost Diabetic because the other stuff was filled with soy, which is a severe allergy for me. I have no other option BUT to use Boost. I liked it just fine.
The first few days were headachey and surreal, but upping my water and crystal light intake helped dramatically. I ate my 2 cups of veggies while I made supper for the rest of my family. It rotted, but OH SO WORTH IT!! I'm pretty sure vitamins should be DISCONTINUED for at least 1 week prior to surgery, some vits might not be compatible with anesthesia. I remember the check in nurse asked me when I had stopped and I said..HUH? Thankfully I still had a few days to go so I quit right there!..LOL Double check with the Dr's though, but in the pre-op waiting room there was HUGE posters on vitamins and herbals that should NOT be used prior to surgery.
I used my time on pre-op to clean drawers, organize meds, snacks or my kids....one last gnarly shopping trip for proteins and broths. Also got some greek yogurt and pudding to mix my meds into post op. I also did a CRAP TON of laundry. I was glad too, because I didn't wanna do laundry for a while after surgery.
I got my VSG Nov 29th of 2010!! I'm almost 2 yrs out and WOW!!! Life is good and I would do it all again in a heartbeat!! :)
Good luck and can't wait til your skinny butt is on the losers bench with the rest of us!

Hi, I'm exactly two weeks out today and am doing great. I didn't do the boot pre op as the protocol was Opitfast (4 shakes a day plus the other liquid options you mentioned) You are lucky to be doing Boost, it's alot cheaper and readily available. I did do Boost post op as I spent the first 3 days after release from the hospital in a hotel and it was handy to have. I took the suggestion of some of the vets and bought some sugar free syrups from Starbucks to flavor things up. I mixed the Dolce Cinnamon in with the vanilla and it tasted very much like a Cinnabon bun. I also mixed (accidently lol) some MIO Peach Mango flavor in with my chocolate boost and it flavored up pretty good (a couple drops of mint extract also changed it up abit). I ALWAYS mixed my shakes with ice in my magic bullet (freeze black coffee for ice cubes, this makes both chocolate and vanilla very Ice Cap-ish)
Sadly, and I probably shouldn't confess to this so often as I am in no way condoning cheating, but when I really couldn't take and had so have a little sumpin sumpin, I would have a pickle. I figured it was the least nasty of things I could cheat with (no fat, lots of flavor, crunchy) Also this pickle behavior was only for the first few days as I wanted to go clean as a whistle for surgery, no traces of anything. But again, if you can do it straight up, then do it, you'll be proud of yourself.
I had to stop all vitamin supplements one week pre op so I would definitely check your info or call the clinic.
I also bought low sodium broth. It was warm and not sweet, as that gets tiring fast.
All in all the two week pre op liquid diet was probaby THE hardest part of this surgery for me but I have been very very fortunate with my recovery. Anyway, I'm off to wallpaper the guest room, now that I'm done painting the ceiling and walls
You'll be great!
