Pre-Op Diet
VSG on 10/16/12
I found the two week liquid diet very hard, didn't think I would miss eating that much. Besides the 4 optifast shakes, I did have some low sodium broth and SF jello. Confession time: I did fall off the wagon with a couple of pickles. I just needed something, just something. I figured a pickle had crunch, flavor and no fat. I made it last for about an hour lol. But I made sure I had NO CHEATS for the last 4-5 days, so everything would be clean as a whistle.
If you can make it through ( and many do) the two weeks, your a better man than me - be strong! you will get through this

you can have yogurt, cream soups, tomato soup, broth, jello, tea, coffee. A pickle if you must .lol I did it too. Last 4 days of diet should be clear liquids like broth, coffee no cream, 7 up, water etc... and take an elaxitive on day 4 - very important to keep your liquids up. also for your trip take some gas-x strips with you, they might come in handy. (helped me) Rainyone gave me a couple of strips. I love those things now. LOL Over and out: Barb
Okay this was my experience and I am only sharing because if I had to do it again, I would do it the way you are. I would definitely do maybe 2 shakes a day and one low cal/low fat meal up until three days prior and then switch to the three day cleanse before surgery. I did smaller meals for two weeks, then splurged the night before the three day broth and yogourt and found it very difficlut for the three pre-surgery days. My tummy wanted food!!!I For me, in hindsight a gradual weaning off food then just liquids basically would have been much easier. If you can think about how your head/body handles these types of situations you will be fine.
