Hi everyone,

With my surgery coming up in a couple of weeks I have a couple of questions....

Do I need to meet with the anesthesiologist before hand as I thought you had to but I haven't heard anything about it.

Where is the best place for me to go and get my vitamins and any recomadations on brands?  I am having  the RNY so I need the whole works!

Same with the protien powder, any brands better than others and where is the best place to get them?

thanks in advance!

hi,
the clinic ususally sets up a pre op appt for the anesthesiologist and to get your blood work done.
as for the protien,i am currently using Click protien powder.its yummy but you have to order it on line.i find that popeyes is a good place to get your powders as they let you sample them before you buy usually.vitmains i usually buy from walmart.i know some of the girls get the bariatric vitamins online.i buy alot of my protien stuff in grand forks as its cheaper than here.i hope this helps you.
if you have any more questions you can pm me if you like.

Hi Candy, sorry I cant help you with the anesthesiologist, I had my ds surgery in Mexico.  As for  vitamins, I get mine at walmart. I am using Iron 300 mg, calcium citrate with D3 take 1500mg -2 pills twice a day (also take these alone without other vitamins they can block absorbstion of other vites). I also take folic acid 1mg, at bed time I take 2 multi-sure for women.  Optional (biotin 1000mcg for hair loss, you may have to take b12 extra I get injections once a month and have had to do this for years even before surgery). Check with your doctor and dietician to see if you will be okay with these or if you need other suppliments too.)  The ds surgery is also malabsobtive like the rny even more so.  hope this helps. I use beneprotein in my coffee, I get it from Selkirk General Hospital the cafeteria manager for $13 for a 227g tin.  Lots of folks like the Click shakes

Yes, they will call you the week before surgery to set up appt. I too just go to Walmart or watch flyers to get my vitamins. Make sure you get enough CHEWABLES for the first month at least. Even after a month I had a hard time swallowing regular pills so still ended up buying more chewables for month 2 as well. NOTE! I find even now, I must take my pills before I eat anything, otherwise I have no room for the pills. Good luck,
BARB C.

In the beginning before I could tolerate chews, I used Wellesse Calcium & Vitamin D3 liquid supplement. I got it from Costco as well as Premier Protein ready mixed shakes. They have 30g of protein and 160 cals, 1 sugar, 6g carbs, 3g fiber . At Popeyes there is Iso Sentsation 93 and it has 30g of protein and 130 calories, 1g carb,

I'm new too and haven't started my pre-op diet yet.  Thanks for your feedback on my post!  I get my vitamins at Costco.  The bulk pricing makes it even cheaper than Walmart.  the Iron and the Calcium Citrate you have to ask for at the counter.  Also ask for a pill crusher.   I am also going to check out the Whey protein powder they sell to see if it meets the requirements on my list.  If you don't have a Costco membership, it may be worth getting or going shopping with someone who has one!  I compared prices to Walmart and it was much cheaper.
