Next Step Done
Hi All,
Well I have a date - Monday, November 5th @ 3 p.m. I leave Winnipeg very early, travel, do tests and then into surgery, all at once! Anyone else do it this way? The reality of this step hasn't hit me yet, but I am so ready to be free from the over-eating monster. Hopefully new habits will prevail.
Any advise or do's and don'ts?
Any other Manitobans having surgery on Nov 5th with Dr. Ponce de Leon in Tijuana?
Thanks for the help,

Yeah you made your decision!!! I didnt do it this way but not because I didnt want to. There are some on here who did it that way and quite frankly, I dont think I would have worried as much if I could have gone the same day. I had to sleep overnight at the hopital for surgery very early in the am so I had all kinds of time to think if whatifs..not enough to make me back out but I would have liked it over with much sooner.
Day one will be tough, just remember that. Some people have no problems from the anastetic and painkillers and some do (like me) ..but I was prepared for that and just let it ride its course. Day 2 was completely different and much better and because I had no pain, I told them to stop the painkillers..that was what was making me sick! I will have to do some thinking on the do's and dont's and get back to you.
Just relax and know that you are in great hands and will on the road to a new you in no time!
P.S. I sent you a pm.

I got in to san diego around 1 pm and had the surgery and out by around 5 or 6 .. I didn't have to worry about getting yogurt and water, traveling while fasting wasn't bad. I was glad it was over early. Madeline is correct - the first day is the worst. By morning next day you feel so much better. My sister and both had weird issues with being overly hot. The nurses kept coming in to the room and it was like walking in a fridge lol. My sister had a lot of back pain with the gas- for me it was chest. I didn't sleep for more that an hour or two at a time the first night. Again by morning I felt so much better. Walking helps. I couldn't read or concentrate very well for the whole time I was in the hospital. Fluffy magazines and tv shows were better than a book. You don't have to concentrate for very long with a magazine. I also found having my own pjs was a godsend. There is something about wearing a hospital gown that makes you feel sicker. I wore comfy pj bottoms and a tank top. When I went walking I had a cardigan type thing I would put over. I brought way too much stuff- thinking a comfy pillow would have been the best thing though. It's been 6 months and I am so glad I did it. best decision ever.

Congratulations on getting a surgery date. My surgery was done the same day I got there, as soon as I got to the hospital there was the tests and then off to surgery. It was great I woke up about 4 hours after surgery for about an hour then back to sleep for most of the night. Day one and 2 were hard for me, I was throwing up foam. I also found it very hard to get comfortable. If you can take a cushion or something that would probably help. If you want to do some site seeing I would go a day or two early and do the vacation thing before surgery. Then you wont be uncomfortable seeing the sights. Barb
It's funny. I had my surgery on Tuesday and released from the hospital on thursday and was itching do go out and do stuff. I felt stir crazy. Trish took us for broth ( my sister had lunch) and a little shopping ( not like there were great deals but we bought some knick knacky stuff for my step kids and my mom -- a rosary etc) and then back to the hotel to relax.
With my sister we went to the shopping things and soup at the same place , then as weird as it sounds we asked trish if she could take us to Costco... we wanted to see mexican costco. It was weirdly fun for us. didn't buy anything but looked around. Some people visit the beach for the day. Some just want to hang by the pool. I loved having a balcony at the hotel to open and relax. We also did pedicures in our room - seriously very nice pedicure I must say, and the polish lasted longer than any other pedi I've had lol...
Our extra day in San Deigo - we went to the outlet mall and totally wore ourselves out. We ended up taking the trolley from downtown - man that was interesting lol. Lots of characters getting on and off and watching the neighbourhoods change as we moved closer to the border. We ended up taking a taxi back since we both were exhausted and had tons of shopping bags. I love a good sale and the maidenform store was amazing while we were down there. Super cheap bras and shapewear.
