Hello my friends.

Sooooo in Edmonton everything went fantasti****il I saw the psychologist and fell apart.  Basically since I went down to 295, my weight has come back up to 320.  I am well aware that ****ty food choices is one way to pack the pounds back on.  So in this appointment we decided that I have a definite emotional barrier to being under 300 lbs but I could not for the life of me tell what it is.

I have been asked to find a therapist who deals with eating disorders/obesity to help me work through these issues.

I need to find someone who isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg.  I am wondering if any one here knows of someone.  If you want to PM me that's ok too.

Check with your regular family physician first to see if they can do a referral to a hospital (prefer the Vic), it could be covered under MB health that way. Why I am saying the vic is because they have added a psychologist to the Bariatric prorgram who is now at the Vic and i don't think the new rerrals have to pay them like we had to before. Chances are, you'll just see that same person as the others in the Bariatric program already are seeing who maybe more knowledgeable with eating disorder stuff..? Just saying? You may have bait of a waiting time, but check with your own doctor here first. Barb C.

My understanding Barb is that all referrals go to centralized intake for psychology -- I can't request a specific hospital or therapist.  Also the wait list would be a hold up for surgery.  Thanks though!

Hi Kristin, sorry I don't know of a therapist for you, but most people fall apart when they have to talk to someone regarding themselves.  Makes you focus on your own problems.  Will this hurt your chances for having the weight loss surgery in the Edmonton program?
Dr. Jamie Ponce de Leon - Medical guide Laurie Wolf Received money Never showed up - Only thing booked were flights.  Surgeon and Medical team, and hospital were awesome .  There is another Medical guide named Trish she is good.  PM me for info.

Thanks for the validation!  Unfortunately, I was advised that if I can't show a decline in weight and that I can stay under 300 lbs I would be discharged from the program to deal with my issues.  It was made VERY clear that once I was able to keep my weight going down they would happily accept a new referral.

So, for that reason, I'm willing to pay out of pocket to get started.  I do have feelers out, I had just wondered if any of my fellow Manitobans had suggestions :)

I doubt the Bariatric program therapist would be able to help. But what about dr grosko that many of us went through to get clearance ? I believe she is in private practice?

I left her a voice mail today. Felt like throwing up but did it anyway. Asked if she was accepting new patients and her fee scale.
