So as many of you know, I was rejected for the St B program and placed on the waiting list due to my BMI. Tomorrow I have an appointment with my DR and hope that I have lost enough to be referred to the current program. If not this month then I would think by Christmas....when I was referred the first time my BMI was almost 57 so I am happy to be so close to the 47.

Now I am worried that I will be refused for having prediabetes, or being on blood pressure meds. I know many of you have had surgery with these problems but lady luck never seems to be on my side. In what situations would they refuse you with these problems? What else can I do to improve my chances of being accepted.

I use my tractivity and log on average 8-9000 steps a day. Some days as high as 11,000 so I am active

I am also going to see about my gallbladder. It has been confirmed through ultrasound that I do indeed have gallstones but the Dr is unwilling to do anything which sucks because I am sore most of the time...

Thanks for listening, missing my friend who is my main support - she's on holidays so I will share my anxiety with you all because alot of you have been where I am...

Wow! Great job Karen..getting that BMI down is awesome progress and you should definitely be proud of yourself! Actually, you are making some tremendous effort in working towards your goal and I sure hope your doctor acknowedges that. Cant help you with the blood pressure meds but maybe someone else will chime in with some experience.

Way to go on your progress!!
I know for my own situation, me having high blood pressure did not hinder my chances of getting approved for the surgery.  When speaking with the surgeon he even told me with my weight along with my high BP and also having fertility issues made me a perfect candidate.
My family doctor who suggested referring me to the program also had mentioned the first time we spoke about WLS that having some other issues like high BP and even diabetes can make us a even more suitable candidates for the new program.

I think that the BMI issue is the most important one for the surgeons rather than having high blood pressure or diabetes.  I think that if the surgeons see how motivated you are to get down to the desired BMI you won't have a issue with being approved.  They want to see that you take the surgery serious and are willing to make the major changes pre surgery not just after surgery.

Wishing you the best of luck with your dr and hopefully you are approved now.  I am a person with a high bmi, so I know how hard you must have had to work to go from 57 to 47.  Way to go.  I'm having to go out of province because of my bmi and being unable to lose enough to be considered in winnipeg. Hopefully you are approved, I think what you've done already is amazing and you deserve to give yourself a pat on the back !

WEll I am now at a BMI of 49 and have about 8 lbs to lose to be referred again. So I made an appointment for the end of November and fingers crossed I will make it.
I did lose almost 9 lbs since July so I can't really complain....

Good for you.  I don't think the dr's realize how hard it is for someone at such a high weight/bmi has losing weight.  It's hard to excercise at a heavy weight, at least I know it is for me.   Good luck with your appointment !

Karen to get into the program you need to have a co-morbidity. Your high blood pressure will be an asset to get into the program.
