Popcorn???

So I went to the dietician two weeks ago and she said I could add some healthy carbs into my diet.  I'm really reluctant to start doing so as Carbs were my enemy before my surgery.

I really want to stay away from pasta and breads.  I've tried a little brown rice which was ok.  One thing I do like is popcorn, is that considered a healthy carb if you have the air popped without butter?  Also because of the air in popcorn, would that cause a hazard for stretching my pouch?

What kind of carbs were you eating at 8 weeks after surgery?

Any suggestions on healthy snacks are welcome.

I added things like shredded wheat murders or oatmeal for breakfast. Remember fruit has CARBS too, so add berries or 1/2 a banana or both. For lunch I have added those Multi grain thinfuls. I have 1/2, put tuna or egg salad on top and then have a few veg like baby carrots and snow peas. I also try to have a small apple for snack. This gives you a food variety of fruit, veg, protein and carb. I like sweet potato instead of white potato, but you only eat about 1/2 potato anyways so ot a huge deal. Just try to make sure you get a good variety of Canada's food guide, almost everything has carb in it, it is what type of healthy foods that makes the difference..NOT CRAP! I haven't tried popcorn yet so don't know, But I do know I can eat a lot more crap than I thight I would be able to andit doesn't fill me up quickly like healthy foods do,,..need to watch them! Thanks Barb!  I'll have to look for the recipe.  Did you post it on your profile page or on the main forum page?  I definately will be adding more fruit to my diet!

I posted the bran muffin recipe on the main forum a few weeks ago.
They are really good and quite healthy especially if you use whole-wheat fllour, which adds even more fiber. barb C

When I saw the nut...she said I could absolutely have the air popped popcorn, no problem.  I have a few times already and it was fine for me!

I've also had mini-wheats (which she okd), whole wheat toast with pbutter, whole wheat spaghetti (about 1/4 cup) with meat sauce...all were fine for me.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Rosebutt,  I'm definately going to try the mini-wheats!  I loved them before, I miss my cold cereal!

How are you doing?  How is your exercise coming?  I'm finding it hard to get going since going back to work, but I'm taking the stairs at work which is 4 flights up and before I'd be dying of breath, but now I can totally manage it.  I'm trying to walk at least every other day and I start Zumba in 2 weeks.  I feel like I should be doing more.  Oh well at least I'm trying!

Take care,
Lindsay

Yeah, I liked my cold cereal too...she said to eat about 10 to 15 of the small mini wheats...its working and helps keep me regular.

I'm doing good, surprised at how well I'm doing with food...the nut wanted me to eat more often...I wasn't getting enough food and she wants my weightloss to slow down.

As for the exercise...I think you are doing amazing!!  I think it's important for us but not to stress too much about it, it's all a process.  I'm actually only doing 2 times a week at the gym (once is with my trainer), will probable go to 3 times a week next week.  I've changed some stuff, like parking further from work, getting out more with the kids, etc...I'm dealing with alot at work so I'm still adjusting to it all.  The nut and Dr. Vergis really helped me on focusing and to stop stressing about things.  It's all a process and to enjoy the new lifestyle.  My 5 year old told me I was pretty the other day...just melted my heart!

Anyways, sorry for blabbing on and on....I think we are very similar with our weight loss.  I hope you are doing very well with this, work and your son (if I remember correctly you have a son right?).

Take care!
