What is normal?
I was wondering what is the average weight loss for someone who
has had a VSG at 3 months including your 2 week pre opp?
Plus, I would like to know if any of you who have had a VSG have problems
that you just don't get that hungry but find it easier to drink?
Because I have no problems drinking water, sugar free drinks or tea.
But when it comes to eating I just don't feel hungry and I forget to eat a lot of the time.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Robynjoy

I have the same problem, forgetting to eat. I rarely feel hungry. Liquids no problem. I had the DS surgery and am about 3 months out, my weight loss would most likely be more than someone with just the verticle sleeve. I have to make myself eat for protein even if i am not hungry. There is usually room for a piece of cheese or something with protein. Try keeping some cheese or meat cut up in fridge just for snacking on every couple hours or drink a glass of milk. Important to keep your nutrients up. Good luck
Thanks for the info, I am really having problems and I am starting to get
a bit worried as I have been getting light headed the past couple of days.
It is really weird that ever since the surgery if I try to eat and I am not hingry
my gag reflex kicks in and I feel like I want to puke. Plus, Boost or protein
drinks give me the runs.I am going to try that cheese and sauage thing.
Thanks again for the help.

I think weight loss depends on how big you were to start, did you diet pre op , and how fast you lose ....but I found a chart online that talked about average weight loss that I seemed to follow, so maybe something to it.
first 10 days- 10-15 lbs
6 weeks- 25-40 lbs
3 months 40-60
6 months 60-100 lbs
1 year 90-100 lbs
The main thing I noticed about this chart was the weight loss was so much faster in the first six months - the honeymoon period. It makes sense to make the best use of that time.
I am 6 months next week and 89 lbs down. at six weeks I was 38 lbs down, around 60 lbs down at 3 months.
I get hungry now- the first couple of months - not much. After the first month I didn't have any issues with drinking. Which is interesting why they say not to drink your calories- way too easy to get in lots of calories that way.
The eating gets wayyyy better months later. Food goes down way better now then it did a couple months out. Try to eat at least 3 times a day - Love the suggestion of having meat and cheese in the fridge to grab. I often will bring a bento box type of meal to eat at work throughout the day. leftover chicken breast, choped up, cheese. fruit. crackers etc.... makes a great thing to "graze" on while I work and don't want to have a meal and feel yucky while there. I still have a measured amount of stuff so I don't feel the danger of grazing as much as I would if I was home and had unlimited access to food.

Thanks, I think my problem of being light headed is that I have not
been eating enough.I really think I need to be eating more but I am not
hungry so I forget to eat.
So I will just have to start snacking a bit to get in what I can.
It will be 3 months for me on the 3rd of October and including
my pre opp I have lost 46 lbs so I guess I am doing OK. I just have
to eat more and more often. This is such unchartered waters for me.
I think the cheese and crackers sounds great and the sausage too.
Thanks again,

If you like crab meat, I have found that easy to eat and snack on. It is fabulous with or without butter, warm or cold. Really high in protein and very low in carbs. Shrimps too. The protein in the crab meat is very easy for the body to absorb. If you use the myfittnesspal measure out the crab meat and see how high it is. If you buy the bags from walmart the nutrition label lists the protein etc. very good for you(not the imitation crab -pollock) snow crab or king crab
hey robynjoy,
im three months out...well today as it is midnight..im down 49lbs and thats with my preop diet. i also find im not hungry...i always have snacks with my whether it be a protein bar in my purse, or mixed nuts. i also like babybel cheese as theyre the perfect size...i found i live off chicken...beef still feels a little too heavy for me and i feel super tired after i eat it! by the sounds of it your weightloss is really good. ive been sitting at this weight for about 2 weeks now. its frustrating to not see the scale move but at the same time our bodies are probably still going through shock!
i also find its way easier to drink then eat..somedays i realize wow i didnt eat much today. i started using my fitness pal to track my protein. nutritionist told me not to count calories as my protein was the most important right now...well everyone was right this surgery isnt easy theres ups and downs and so many learning curves!
i also last night made lasagna in my slow cooker...i cooked the ground chicken and then added it to the slowcooker with mushrooms, spinach, pasta sauce, ricotta cheese and some mozza cheese. i then took 2 oven ready noodles and crushed them up and mixed it all together after the 5 hours i let it cook it was perfect and its nice cause ur getting veggies and protein!
i find im a lot better off when i prepare that way i wont forget to eat! keep us informed at how youre doing its good to hear from you!

Tiffany I really appreciate your openness.
You and I had our surgeries a week apart so when I look at your posts.
I know you are just a little hop ahead of me. I am so glad that I am not the
only one going through this not being or feeling hungry. The problem is you
get up have your cup of coffee then you start to do something as you are
not to eat for 30 min next thing you know it is afternoon. I guess I am going
to have to learn time management.
Your weight loss is great. I just weighed myself this morning and
I am down 53 lbs and that includes my pre opp
I love that lasagna slow cooker idea I am going to try that.
That would be great to take to a pot luck.
It would be great if we could do a recipe exchange
at a meet and greet we could all bring our recipies
printed out.
I am like you as well when it comes to beef it just does not sit right
and I get realty tired after I eat it.
Are you going to be able to make it to the meeting on Oct 3rd the
one thought the clinic at the Vic? I really would love to sit down and talk.
This site is such a life saver because someone has been or is going
through what you are experiencing. Plus the love and openness here
is so amazing.
Take care.
