Click after surgery

I waited about a month before I had caffiene. For me , it was an issue of liquids. Caffiene is not all that bad. People talk about it being dehydrating but seriously I know people who ONLY drink coffee throughout the day- nothing else. it isn't healthy but they aren't dehydrated. The whole 8 glasses a water a day is a bit of a myth. BUT after surgery you aren't eating very much and not getting liquids from the foods you are eating ( like fruit and veggies) and it is easy to get dehydrated.
I think as soon as you are able to get your fluids in ok - you should be ok, imo. My first coffee at one month out gave me goosebumps it was so good. Some people like my sister love ice cold liquids and I found hot liquids easier to get in ( broth , tea, etc) At this point for me ( 5 months) I get tons of fluids . I can drink a bottle of water in about 10 minutes usually. I have very little restriction with fluids of any kind. ( makes sense why they say don't drink your calories)

thanks Rainyone, I wasn't sure about the caffeine part. Have you tried the Vanilla Latte? I am thinking I should have ordered that as well. I only ordered the Mocha expresso, but I see lots of goodies I might like from this Vitacost, Any recommendations from those who have tried products from here?
I can't decide between the mocha and the vanilla. I usually order both lol. I am a total addict. I also tried chike ( another coffee protein) I like it but I don't think quite as much as the click. The click is more coffee flavored which i like. I like the click with some sf flavours added too.
The PB2 is awesome. My 14 yr old step daughter loves it. I eneded up ordering a huge economy bag of it from another site lol. They sell the bottles on vitacost. It's powdered peanut butter ( less fat)
and chocolate pb. You can add water or mix it into shakes and stuff.

My experiece was that I couldn't go near coffee for about 6 or 7 weeks. The smell and taste just was off for me and I LOVE coffee. I got into tea first thing in the morning. Now am back on coffee mostly decaff ( just ordered the mocha and the decaf click) but I do enjoy the odd full octaine one at work or a cappucino when I am out in the big city. I think I might have cured my desire for vanilla frappacinos at starbucks this summer. The last one was not tasting as great as they did at the start of summer....maybe I am just ready for fall.
My two cents worth -- the nutritionist at my surgeon's office in Mexico had no issues with having caffeine after surgery. Another surgeon I looked into said they didn't allow it at all. I couldn't imagine life without coffee!! I did some research on the internet and found that it is a myth that caffeine is dehydrating, especially if you drink it already.
I tried coffee within a week after surgery. I love my coffee, but it tasted completely different (almost no taste to me) for two or three months after surgery, so I drank very little for a few weeks. The taste is "normal" now. It was just another one of those things that didn't taste the same (like protein drinks of any kind that nearly made me gag). I still rarely drink them.
I think I was allowed to start protein drinks two or three days after surgery. (Seven months ago is hard for me to remember LOL.) I presume you'll get a list of when to introduce what types of foods following surgery. I got a calendar with the weeks marked on it and what I was allowed to have when.
My stomach also prefers warm (or at least room temperature) to cold. Cold drinks give me an uncomfortable gurgling. Water with flavouring is also better than plain water. I think I've read that from someone else on here, too.
Now I just try things and see what happens! So far I haven't found anything I can't drink or eat. (A few glasses of wine over the past weekend went down fine and I wasn't too loopy afterwards!)

HW 270 (Sept 2011); surgery weight 236 (Feb 6, 2012); current 167 (103 lb lost); goal set by nutritionist 148 (ha ha!!). Vertical sleeve gastrectomy at Obesity Control Center (Dr. Ariel Ortiz), Tijuana, MX. Self-pay, self-referral, 4-week wait. Abdominoplasty Aug 10, 2013 (Dr. K. Dolynchuk, Winnipeg - self-pay)
I had my first drink last night since my surgery. It was good, not a huge difference but I did have the sleeve not the RNY. It still scares me some of the stats about addiction transferance after weight loss surgery. Something like 25% of people with wls end up addicted to something else, usually alcohol.
I think with RNY the risk is more likely to have a problem with alcohol as well. You metabolize alcohol differently after the surgery, get drunk faster ...... It can make people end up drinking more.
Plus with both the surgeries you don't have the food to turn to anymore and alcohol can be tempting to over indulge. Never mind that the alcohol is useless empty calories.
Scary stats , imo
