So...I really regret not taking anything for it...I've been battling this pain for 6 hours now and it's still hurting.  Just want it over with!!!  I'm drinking water but haven't eaten anything today.  Just can't do it!

Any ideas for FAST relief?

You take a softner every day since the surgery?  Is that what we need to do?

Omg!!  It's finally over and now I need to heal.  This was by far one of the worst and longest day I have ever experienced.  I need to go rest now!

I haven't had any problems since the NUT told me to add more carbs and whole grains.  But you're not there yet.  I had success with baby food pureed prunes in the early days.  Some have said the pear juice works but I haven't been able to find any anywhere.

Hey Alle,
Pear juice is available in the baby foods area. Or you can pay an arm and a leg for it in the specialty juice aisles. I much more prefered the baby aisle!

I have the worst issues. Talk about tmi.  I have always had issues anytime I diet in the past with constipation. I think because I don't eat the same volume or my fat intake is down.

I have had horrible constipation since the surgery . I let it go too long and ended up getting impacted, got hemmoriods and a fissure. It sucks. It is like my bowel has become very lazy since surgery. I can have lots ummmm in line to come out but wont come out on it's own.  The one time I ended up being so impacted that I actually had to disimpact myself. It was horrible - I'm a nurse and I've done it to many people but it wasn't going to resolve on it's own and I was NOT about to go to the hospital to get it done.  I was actually getting diarrhea around the impaction and it still wasn't moving.

I have to stay on top of the issue. I have enough laxatives to rival a hospice here. I've tried senekot, holy tea, milk of mag, colace ( stool softener) restoralax., 2 types of suppositories, I've even resorted to an enema when I was impacted and it didn't help.

It has been better now that I am tolerate more foods and a little bit more volume. I find drinking lots of fluids really help as well, but I still have to resort to glycerin supps several times a week or I won 't go. I also use senekot once or twice a week but still need the supps or it will just sit there.

Anyway as a nurse my advice is stool softener and restoralax are your first line of defense. Basically they aren't addictive to your bowel but will help you stay regular.

Thanks Rainyone...sounds exactly like what I went through today but I was embarassed to say.  It was seriously the worst!  I used my kids suppository (all I had) and then had to do the rest to get through it.

Is restoralax the same as Lax-a-day cause that's what I have here and I took some tonight.  I plan on sticking to it for a bit....What stool softener do you use?

Thanks for the advice.

Ducosate is the stool softeners. They are red capsules and super cheap.  The lax a day is the same. I think in the states it is called miralax. Basically it just pulls water into the bowels to help .

When you are totally backed up don't take it until you deal with the back up though... lol.. fiber and this stuff in my experience just makes it worse - you probably need to take a laxative or prunes and get things going.

The surgery really messes you up right after. You have the painkillers which can be constipating and the anesthetic which can slow up your system as well. And then to boot you have had your guts operated on and are not able to eat or drink as much to help either!

You can take the lax a day every day  or the same with the stool softeners ... you'll know when you don't need as much and then most people take them less often . Although some will take it daily for ages.
