Exhausted and in a fog...
So I'm on day 8 of my optifast diet and today at work I was so dazzed and foggy
I didn't know what to do with myself. I'm feeling so tired and weak...is this normal.
I had one of the nurses take my blood sugar and it wasn't low, so that's good.
Also I've only lost 8 pounds and I'm already past the half way mark. I thought I would
wake up this morning and the scale would have moved but nothing for the last 2 days.
I thought I would have lost 10 lbs for sure in the first week. Has anyone noticed if they lost
more weight during the first or second week of shakes?
Anyway I hope this feeling goes away, because I don't feel like doing ANYTHING
...back to bed I go

the first week i felt like a should have lost a lot more...it was the last couple of days before surgery that i dropped the most. omg i too felt foggy and in a daze, i was napping after work and im not a napper. i also had a lot of stress and worry and i drove myself crazy...unbelievable how u wake up post op with a huge weight lifted from your shoulders! congrats on getting to day 8 not much longer to go :) the second week of shakes i found i couldnt handle drinking all 4!
hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for you!

Hi Linz-Loo
Are you drinking plenty of water besides your shakes? I've read in places that being even a little bit dehydrated can cause you to be tired. (Of course having so few calories probably doesn't help!)

Hi Linz;
There is nothing fun about the pre-op diet. There were days when I wanted to call in sick because I just wasn't functioning well. I had massive headaches from carb withdrawal. Drinking lots of water helped.
Try not to focus on the scale for the next several weeks. Your body is undergoing a major change and it takes time to adjust. Some people lose a ton of weight pre-op, some don't.
Hang in there!

Hey Lindsay....I slept a fair bit too pre op but that's okay, you will be well rested for the surgery! Also going to bed early most nights kept me away from the evils in the kitchen. I was also going to ask if you've been drinking enough water, that makes a big difference as to your head fog and tiredness. I know you're drinking lots with your shakes already but you will still need water. I lost my weight pre op in fits and spurts. Nothing much for a few days then a few pounds in one day, but everyone is different.

8 pounds in 8 days, you are doing great! I only lost 8 pounds in total! And yes, you will be tired. Don't make any plans until at least a week or two after surgery as you will be tired until at least then when you can start having a bit more to eat like creamed or pureed foods. Keep up the good work and just keep your eye on the prize! It will all be worth it in the end. Good luck. Barb C.
