So I'm on my 8th day of Optifast and I'm trying to get ready for after the surgery. I've been looking at vitamins and protein and I feel so confused!!! I don't know what to get and where!! Can anyone share where you buy you're vitamins and the name of them?
I`ve found D3 vitamin in drops and B12 vitamin for on the tongue (Shopper's Drug Mart). I`m still looking for a multi-vitamin, calcium, iron and biotin....as I'm assuming everyone takes the same things. Also are they chewable or liquid form?
I bought unflavoured Whey Protein (VitaHealth)...375g (wanted to see if I would like it before buying a bigger container)..28g a scoop..for 22.99$, does that sound about right??
Thanks for your help as I am at a complete loss at the moment...

I get all my vitamins at WalMart. You have to ask for iron at the Pharmacy counter. When you buy calcium, be sure to get calcium citrate. Choose any multivitamin you want. Some people prefer the chewable, but I do not because I hate the taste and they are more expensive.
Remember, you may not be able to take all your vitamins immediately after surgery. They can be difficult to get down in the first couple of weeks. Once I was a month out, I was able to swallow all my pills.
I ordered Beneprotein from my pharmacy because it is an unflavoured protein powder that can be added to things like mashed potatoes or yogurt. (It can't be added to really hot foods, like broth, because the texture changes.) It was good to have right after surgery. If you like flavoured protein drinks, all the better
Good Luck!

@ Rosebutt...I am also on day 8 of optifast, so we must be having our surgery the same day. Mine is booked for Aug 2 @ 7:45.
I also am feeling the same way about the vitamins, overwhelmed. You can buy chewable
multi-vitamins, but I've been told at the M & G the gummie kind are not acceptable as they don't
have everything you need in them. This weekend I have to head out and really get all my stuff
together. I also bought the beneprotein protein powder in unflavoured from the tache pharmacy located on the main floor of the St. B Clinic. I've also heard to check out Costco for vitamins. They are supposed to carry the liquid Calcium which also include the Vitamin D in it.
Hope this helps!

Thanks guys...that does help some....I'll have to keep looking. I'm on day 9 today so I'm 1 day ahead of you...Linz-loo...my surgery is at 7:45 on August 1st! Things have been going pretty okay but yesterday and today I have a bit of a harder time with motivation. I know its worth it but I'm freakin a bit again!
Costoc has a liquid calcium called Wellesse.

I like centrum silver chewable. I take a vit b12 1000ui or mg (what they are measured in) that is sublingual. I have a hard time swallowing pills.
Good luck to both of you on your up coming surgeries.
Mich
P.S. It was suggested to me to add a vit d supplement when I take the calcium for added absorption.

I had VSG not RNY so I don't malabsorb
I hated the centrum silver chewables when I was pre op but quite like them now! it's bizarre. One of the few things that changed taste wise for me.
I take D3 ( which my levels are low according to my labs at 3 months so I up'ed it quite a bit - Used to take 2000mcg now take double that)
Calcuim Citrate ( got a liquid at popeyes )
B12 subligual which I got at popeyes
Centrum chewable -
I bought biotin at GNC but just started taking it this week as my hair just started falling out like a switch went off. From a lot of the stuff I read - it said that it doesn't prevent the hair loss but just helps it grow back.
I also take papapya enzyme when food doesn't agree with me. It was suggested by a friend who had RNY and said food would feel stuck and it would help.
I also recently taking a probiotic ( since I didn't think I was taking enough pills already???!!! lol)
I don't take iron and my levels are good. The only weird lab work I had was my vitamin d and my serum calcuim and parathyroid hormone. Those don't have much to do with my intake or vitamins but rather to do with my thyroid which was surgically removed and now my parathyroids are acting crazy for some reason - most likely not at all to do with the wls

Hi Ladies... Where in Winnipeg can you find the Centrum Silver Chewables? I would like to try! I bought the Unjury chewables and though they're good for you (lotsa stuff in them) the taste makes me avoid them like the plague. The gummies I got from Sam's Club in Grand Forks sure taste good but Linz-Loo is right, they don't have nearly the number of vitamins you need in there (plus no calcium and no iron). Thanks!
