So here's the deal...I bought a nice jacket that I REALLY like from Sears yesterday. It was cheap...$12.00 from $60.00. It's a size 18 and it's tight across the back, so much so that at the moment I wouldn't be able to comfortably wear it, but I bought it thinking that I will shrink into it...and heck, it was only 12 bucks. My darling mother was over, so I tried it on to show her. Her response, 'Ohh it's tight, I'd take it back". I told her my plan is to shrink into it. Her response "Lori, you're a big girl, broad with big bones". (Basically insinuating that I'd never fit it) This is what I have heard the majority of my life and I really didn't enjoy hearing it yesterday and it was then that my bubble burst.
So at this point I'm wondering to myself, just what size will I end up? I'm down 47 pounds, and I have another 40 to go to meet the surgeon's goal. I think I'm gonna keep that darn jacket just to inspire me and hopefully prove that maybe my bones really ain't that big.

I have heard much the same thing from my family most of my life. Don't you just gotta love them???? I don't care who you are....your skeletal frame is not a size 18....if your bones where that big you would weigh an awful lot more.
You will fit into that jacket and probably shrink out of that jacket! That'll show them! What size were post adolescence when you thought of yourself as normal weighted? I'm not saying we can get back to that size...have to consider the aging process but we shouldn't be that far off.
I see you've lost a little more than half the weight the surgeon wants you to lose and I bet you've come down a few clothing sizes already, and I would bet you have several more in store. Don't let those comments get in your head...they are poisonous!

I agree with Alle...that darn jacket will fit you and then you will shrink out of it.
I have done exactly the same thing as you -- bought a few things on sale that are too tight because I know they will fit within a few weeks. I bought a jacket that was a bit tight about six weeks ago and when I tried it on to show my sister-in-law last week, her comment was "it's too big!"...and it almost is.
It's sad that your mother doesn't realize that having this surgery means you ARE going to lose weight and fit into smaller clothes.
I've been at Sears about four times now...and have ordered a bunch of stuff on sale online. Great deals.
You will prove your mother wrong. Doesn't she understand that was the whole point of having this surgery? Does she not see the weight you have lost already? I don't know what size you'll end up, but you will most definitely fit into a jacket that's just tight right now. (Shoulda bought a size 16!!! LOL)

When i was trying on wedding dresses the lady said 20lbs =about a size.
I can't imagine you not dropping 1-2 sizes AT LEAST . Plus you said it is just a bit tight - odds are it will fit very soon!
Family can drive us nuts . Never mind the sizes freaking us out ! Seriously I can fit into 16's in some things , and when I was trying wedding dresses I was looking at sizes I wasn't even in in street clothes at my highest weight lol.... I never know what sizes to grab off the rack ! I'm wearing a pair of shirts that are falling off and they are 18's .....

You gals are wonderful and I knew many of you could relate. I just tried the jacket on again...yup it's tight! Turns out I do have to take it back though...temporarily at least. I just noticed they left the security clip thingy on it!! Surprised bells and whistles didn't sound when I walked out the door. Hope they don't sound when I walk back in!

Lori, keep it. at 200 lbs I was wearing size 18 and I am a heck of a lot shorter than you, I would think you will be in size 16 or 14 by the time you hitt 200. I stopped buying things as I find I am just wasting my money because I am growing out of them so quickly. What fits today WILL NOT fit in another 6 weeks, it will be TOO BIG. I find I am changing dress sizes about every 15 pounds I loose. So, if I were you, depending on how soon you want to wear that jacket, you may even consider a size 16, really. And anyways, you're gorgeous now, just think how hot you'll be showing off that, jacket.

Add me to the cheering section! I personally choose to hope that when family make STUPID comments like that it because they don't want us to be disappointed if it doesn't happen. Realistically I know that it says more about them then us. You shrink into that 18 and on down, just remember those who come behind you and pass it on at a meet and greet when you swim in it!
