so let down
After going thru emotional hoops, I had finnaly had my surgery.
I was elated to have had it..even more elated on the discovery my healiong process was super fast!
I found I could eat fairly well, shortl;y after the surgery. Certanilly, not the standard I was told my stomach coul.d hold.
I had found I lost most of my weight from the preop shake diet.
Since then, only lost about 10 pounds.
I have spoken to the surgeon and laura, who both quickly brushed off my concern something must not of gone right during the surgery.( I had the VSG).
I have read many other posts with people having the VSG, and with the talks of them loosing so much weight, ot being able to eat much etc..just reinforces this surgery did not work for me...or, the boughie was left to big for me.
So I feel as though I am back near the beginning again.
I guess I just want to let other's know, although the surgery can do wonders for many, for some..it is not the case at all. Unfortuanlyy, that was not made clear to me.
I feel so let down, dissapointed, and discouraged.
yes, I do go to the gym, and eat lots of veggies..but..I can easily eat most of what I could before in the amount dept.
Not sure what I wanted from this, but I did want to put a heads up to some thinking of this..it may not work.
Do you find yours like that? do you eat your protein first? log your foods?
Have you thought about asking the surgeons to perform the RNY? I was originally told that if I had the VGS, I could later have an RNY. They don't like doing it that way, but it is possible. It may be worth speaking to the surgeons about this. Obviously, this would not be something to jump into, but it may be worth researching.
In the meantime, please keep coming here for support. I don't know if others have felt this way, but I am also disappointed in how much food I can consume. I wish they had made my pouch smaller so that I had even greater restriction than I do now. On my down days, I have wished for the money to have Lap-Band surgery in addition to my RNY, just so I could increase my restriction a bit. I do agree with comments above though. I get the greatest restriction when I eat protein first. Carbs just pass through me a lightning speed and an hour later I am hungry again.
My heart goes out to you. Hugs!
Tanya
P.S. Many thanks for the information. It is important for people to know that not everyone experiences the same results.

I really wonder what size they make the pouches and sleeves in Manitoba? I have seen the bougie size comparision chart and it isn't that much different . I think mine is a 36 sewn up as a 34 ? or 34 to 32 - can't remember totally. Is it that they make them too big?
This has always had me wondering whenever I have read posts like this from people. Before I had my VSG, I often thought..how could you not lose weight eating 600-700 calories a day, drinking 64 oz at least if not more and getting in 70-90 of protein? Thats what Im shooting for right now and some days its tough.I can certainly see now how the weight does not want to come off and how discouraging it can be. Thanks for the heads-up and the view from the other side.

VSG MAY 22 DR. PONCE DE LEON MEXICO
7.5 months - 70 pounds!!!
This is not an easy process to go through to begin with.
I have found it very frustrating post op as it is really hard to charter the
waters. You see Laura Pre Op and she gives you a booklet on what to
do in Phases 1, 2 , 3, 4 Post Op. They need to tell you Portion sizes and even
examples would be nice. I understand that this is a new program
There are a lot Do's and Don'ts that are not in the book and it is a
learning process from what I have read from others on this site.
I would have NO PROBLEM putting on a 12 course meal now I
have to knock that down to a pie plate and a measuring cup. I think everyone
could benefit if we could get a bit more information to help us succeed.
Have you contacted the NUT at the Clinic at the Vic maybe they could help you?
they are there for a resource for us to use and the more we all use it the more we
all can learn that's including the Professionals involved they will see the demand.
Keep your head up and keep on plugging on you can do it.
Take care.

Who would ever think they would say they wanted to be on the loosers bench? We Do!
Oh, man..thanks sooo much for the responses and support.
I had my surgery in march of this year..
What frustrates me is the lack of conern io recived from the Dr and the NUT, when I gave my concerns.
I know myself, and know what i can eat.
I was not warned fully, or expalined why to get protein in..I had been do9ing alot of protien.
I agree, we need a good support group and much better expanations on what to do.
This is a whole new thing for us.
I was told at the beginning the surgery could be turned in RNY, if not alot of weight was lost. But with the huge wating time now..I doubt that will happen. Plus, when I did see the surgergeon, he did not say that was a possibilty. Just that feeling good is a good thing..and I am suppose to eat.
I get hunger pains..true ones..and my stomach often has acid reflux. Which seems more trouble some now.
I can eat sweet fatty things like no man's business!!
i had wanted to go to the coffee meets that have on, but to be honest..this whole thing has made me
embarrased somehow. Like..OMG...even surgery is'nt getting me out of this!
I am too have another app't with Dr Andrew's. I will have to call and see when it is, and see if it can moved up.
I want to be outspoken and speak up for myself. Either say I want the bougie smaller or go on the list for the RNY.
I thank you all for your time and support.
It meant so much to me to actually be listend to!!
hugs
One of things I read on the board that my Dr never told me was, to not drink half an hour before I eat and then not to drink for another 30 to 45 minutes after. When I tried that, it works better for me. Also if I am feeling hungry it may be acid reflux and to up the PPI, my Dr now has me on two 40 mils a day. I have also learned if I have over 40 grms of carbs a day I have hunger pains.
All those little things that have the potential to turn into big things I need to hear.
So again please come to the M & G you are not a failure by any stretch; no one is; we are all human working towards a healthier person.
Hugs; hugs. Lorna
