I just come back from my 1 month VSG check up with doctor Andrew. I have only lost 2 pounds a week since surgery and he said that was good?? Thought I would loose quicker, but he said, the slower you loose the better it is as your skin gets to keep up with you loosing the fat. He also suggested I should be eating MORE and should be eating at least 800 -1,000 calories by now. Again thought that was high, but he said NO, and that I should then be taking in 1,200 and should still loose weight. He was more concerned in PROTEIN...make sure you are getting in your protein!
This is quite different from what I have read on the main VSG site. Most of them only eat 600-800 calories. I am going to up ot a bit and see what happens. I don't see Laura until August, swill definitely ask her about this again and more so, portion sizes for that number of calories...Barb C

Too funny, I was there today too maybe we saw each other in the waiting room. I was in black capri's with black and white polka dot top and a black sweater. ( Still in my please make me look slimmer black clothes, LOL gotta wear them out before I shrink out of them) Had my check up with Dr. Andrew and all is good, healing well and eating very well!
I am 6 weeks post op and had my follow up with Laura the Nutritionist today too and she says she would like me to use the shakes less,( I have been having one every morning for breakfast ) maybe every other day and get more carbs and grains in. Also dairy twice per day so milk on cereal or in the shake and yogurt as a mid afternoon snack. I was shocked when she said try for more carbs. I have been averaging 3-4 lbs loss per week but that includes the optifast weeks and she wants me to slow down to 1-2 lbs per week so as not to increase the risk of gall stones and kidney stones. I am tracking my food with the My Fitness Pal app on my blackberry and I average 50 -60 gr of protein a day and only about 30-40 gr of carbs. Love this app. I am somewhere around 1000 cal. on average per day some days a bit less and was encouraged to have an after supper snack to get my calories up as well and to add some pasta, rice and/or starch to my suppers. Part of me wants to loose as much as I can as fast as I can but my brain says I am in this for the long haul and it's a marathon not a sprint. I like the idea of letting my skin catch up to my weight loss as I already have some flabby skin issues. Oh and I find I need lots of moisturizer all over as my skin is getting fine wrinkly lines....and it's not from being dehydrated!!

I am three weeks and a bit out and Dr Ponce in Mexico told me I should be getting 800 to 1000 calories a day and if I exercise for at least 30 minutes then I could have as much as 1300 calories a day. So far I am around 600 to 800 a day with a min of 70 grams of protein and max 30 grams of carbs. It seems to be working for me I am down 28 lbs now.
It sounds to me like you are all doing well. Please also remember that what they suggest is their opinon of what is ideal. However, it is just as important to listen to you bodies, especially at this early stage. If you can't get in all the calories they suggest, that is really ok. Give it another month or so and you will find that it is easier to consume all that they suggest. Also remember that about three weeks out, there is usually a weight loss plateau. You will break that barrier soon and the weight will start coming off faster.
Keep up the good work. Good Luck!
