One month update..a little late!
Well, May 22 was my one month update and I had lost a total of 25 pounds from pre-op to that date. I was thrilled!! I can breathe better already, my face is thinner (right Justmest??) and my clothes are looser and I used to be HOT all the time, I now find myself complaining of being cold..that has NEVER been me!
Then last Wednesday, I had a debilitating pain in my left lower flank, and had to rush to emergency. Found out I have a kidney stone, not large enough for them to take out surgically, but large enough that its taking its sweet time passing. Lots and lots of morphine and a slew of other stuff and I am home from wor****il I feel better. Of course, our only urologist is away on vacation so I just medicate until he gets back on Monday or Tuesday and if it hasnt passed by then, then he decideds what we need to do next. Its so unpredictable..being afraid to go anywhere or do anything in case that searing horrible pain comes back. (and it will because thats how you know the stone is moving!)
The docs on call said it is unrealted to WLS but a search on here has me thinking otherwise. (although I have followed a high protein diet for a long time)so I have no idea. And even though I explained my new sleeve to anyone who I felt should know, I never got the kind of food I needed. I was served pudding with sugar and whip cream with sprinkles, full sugar juices, sandwiches, cheesecake, potate soups, white rice and chicken noodle soup that was more large noodles than anything else. This was what they called a carb controlled diet??? Whatever, at least I didnt have hunger pangs and I had some Wendys chili when I got home. Some days I wasnt even hungry so I told my hubby not to worry about bringing me anything.
Anyway, Im home now for a bit, down 2 pounds more from the hospital (feels like more) and not in pain. Its a good day!

Geez Louise that sounds awful..... I hope for your sake you have a speedy stone passing party. You would think that at a hospital of all places you would get what you need food wise. sheesh.
So I've heard that losing weight too quickly can lead to stones (renal and gallbladder) due to the fact it can't process the waste that makes these stones fast enough to keep up with the weight loss ..... but I can't remember where I read this or even if I am remembering it right. What has your research told you? I'm very interested in this....

Not that it matters a whole lot but it should say June 22 for my one month update..May 22 was my surgery date. So far my research has only been when I put "kidney stones" into the search button at the top. Didnt have much energy yesterday to do more than that. Today I plan on doing lots of online searches to find out everything I can. Once I pass the stone, they are going to send it away to see what it is made of and thats how they determine what caused it and what you need to do with your diet to not have another one. (I had ctscans in the hospital and it showed only one..whew!)
I weighed in today also just to see the numbers and I have lost a total of 30 pounds in just over a month. Im sure the hospital stay affected those other 5 pounds to drop and as long as I get back on my eating plan, Ill feel better and continue to lose weight as I should with the sleeve, not from lack of eating.
Thanks for the well-wishes..I appreciate the support. Being home makes it so much more bearable also.

i can understand what your going thru, 2 years ago i had a kidney stone. they tried lithotripsy on it twice, to shatter the stone then they went "up" and got it. im nervous now cuz in the month leading up to surg i had 3 gall bladder attacks, i have stones there now. im on a medication called ursodiol, to help prevent it from getting worse, but if i lose weight quickly im scared of what will happen....ugh. i tried to get them to remove it during my rny surg but my surgeon said it makes it to complicated, so poop! guess im in for a 2nd surg in the not too distant future.
best of luck with your stone, they are not fun!! if they do send you for lithotripsy, i can tell you all about it, just ask. its really not bad at all, feels like someone snapping an elastic band against your back over and over, but they drug you up pretty good, lol
hope you find relief soon,
niki
