Weekend in Grand Forks
Hi Lorna, Wow three weeks already...time flies. I was ok with eggs but am not having a good time with them right now. I think cheese is one of those foods too some can do it and some it takes a while. Have you tried the beneprotein? It's flavourless and mixes easily into pudding or sugarfree jello. I have used it in soups just mixed it in before heating the soup up. I got mine at my local pharmacy is was about $18 for a can. When my pouch gets grumpy I try to give it something frozen, like the motts fruitsations no sugar added freezies. It's not a lot of nutrition but it settles it down. The starbucks nonfat frappaccino is good too! I can do a whole timmies yogurt and berries and really like it. Some of the ladies were saying at the last get together that the small chili at Wendy's is a good choice too but maybe too early for you right now.
Hey Alle
Is the Beneprotein really flavourless? I have some plain protein powder that I tried using, but even though it claims to be flavourless, I can taste it, plus it changes the texture of things like cream soup. Blah. If Beneprotein really has no taste, I might buy some to try, although I've heard it's hard to find. Which pharmacy did you get yours at?
I definitely don't eat all my protein first. It makes for a very boring meal to me. I have two or three bites of chicken or whatever meat, then a couple of bites of veggies. People need the nutrition in veggies too, I figure, so I'm eating that way.
We often make wraps with whole grain flat tortillas, sliced chicken, cucs, tomatoes, peppers, a bit of shredded cheese & a bit of ranch dressing. It's a pretty balanced meal and you get some of everything in every bite.
I've had VSG and my stomach is the opposite - it isn't very happy with very cold things. It's a lot of trial and error because everybody's stomach seems to react differently.

I agree everyone is a bit different. I find the beneprotein to be flavourless, it does slightly thicken things up a bit. I can't taste it but in jello it makes it less clear and in pudding a tiny bit thicker. I do not taste it at all. I got it in Stonewall at my pharmacy but I also saw it at the pharmacy in the ground level at the St. B. surgical offices building. I like your wrap idea I have done that too. Lately I have taken large lettuce leaves to use as a wrap with a bit of mayo and thinly sliced roasted turkey breast from the deli and finely chopped tomatoe and cucumber and made a wrap that way. Sometimes the tortilla bothers me.
Wow! Im a few days shy of 1 month from surgery and I usually have 3/4 egg for breakfast (if time allows), 4 turkey meatballs in gravy for lunch, proten shake for snack, and then chicken or fish or more meatballs for supper..maybe 3 oz if that? Lots of water, crystal light in between. i think Im going to try and add some really soft cooked veggies cause Im really missing them.
And I LOVE grand forks..but with all the money I just recently spent in Tijuana, I think I will have to stay home for a few months! Unless I can swing it cause now I want to try that Target brand of protein powder you speak of..off to make some plans, lol..

7.5 months - 70 pounds!!!
Sorry pressed send too soon - damn iPhone .
Those non dense foods tend to go through with the pyloric valve open and that's why they call then sliders - also one of the reasons they say dont drink with your food- the valve stays open. Think of applesauce going through a funnel - slowly .. Now picture putting water in with the applesauce - much quicker ! Keep in mind this is with the sleeve where you have a valve . The pouch doesn't so food might empty faster .... I'm not sure how this works . Same with sleeve sizes - not sure what size or how tight they make them in manitoba vs the ones Madeline, teesha and I had in Mexico with dr ponce - but I sure know my sleeve is pretty restrictive 3 months out ( I love it though! - 60 lbs down woohoo- it's the only part in my body I can call nice and tight !)
I guess what I am saying is be prepared to have lots of protein and little room for other stuff . At least in the beginning . Your protein goal is pretty high when you think of the tiny room you have in your sleeve. You need to make it sleeve worthy most of the time ! I find it easy to eat out though ( and cheap!)
