Trouble Sticking with the Pre-Op Liquid Diet

I am losing my mind.  I have been on the pre-op ISOFlex diet since Tuesday and I just can't seem to only drink the stuff.  It tastes great but I want to chew so badly.  I haven't eaten a meal or anything outlandish but I have had a bite of a sandwich, some popcorn, and a small piece of French bread.  My surgery is on June 25!!

Please, anyone that is out there that has done the pre-op without any problems not eating, give me some hints and advice!!

On top of the really wanting to 'eat' something, I have also gotten dehydrated as well.

And another issue, my blood sugar levels.  For the first 3 days, they were great, no need for the medication but now they are running high again and I don't know why.  It's not the little bit of food I have eaten however, stress sends my levels way up and the impending surgery has me scared.

I just want the surgery over with so I can get back to Winnipeg and get on with the rest of my life.  I worry about dying, I worry about my daughter, I worry about my work, I worry and I worry.  Hmmm, anyone see a problem here?  (yes, sarcasm isi intended!)

Thanks for any advice at all!

I chewed a lot of gum. A lot. I had many different flavours all sugar free. I was worried about dying too, I think just about everyone worries about it. Please try to drink as much as you can. The more you drink the easier it is to stick the the pre-op diet. Good luck with the wait but next thing you know you will be back in the 'Peg resting comfortably :D

Dont get discouraged. Do get some gum...Do drink a LOT more liquids, I can't stress that enough. If you HAVE to eat chose a cheat that isn't carby, like tuna or chicken. In my 2 week liquid diet I ate about 2 cans of tuna ...I had a bite or two A DAY when I was cooking dinner for my family. I didn't eat with them for the whole 2 weeks. I ate with my computer..LOL and read stuff here...LOL

Does your diet not allow certain veggies? The "original" Winnipeg one had 2 cups of specific veggies. I would probably ask my doctor about that. There are MANY different kids of pre-op diets out there some all liquid and some all foods. I think the best mix for me was my 4 shakes and 2 cups of veggies. I didn't use the protein the program recommended because I am allergic to soy. The stuff I used was lower in calories, so I got an "extra" shake. By the end of the 2 weeks, I didn't even want the last shake..I was too full, guess my tummy had shrunk already.

At then end of the day think of this : You want this, you deserve this, all will go as it should and no amount of worry will change that!!! Just jump on the ride and hang on!!

I hope this helps and I hope you know you are NORMAL and that you have support here!!

Try chewing Ice ....it will give you the crunch and also help get in some of the water you are lacking and don't forget to drink and drink lots .  Good luck you are going to rock this and be just fine
