howdy all! i came home from edmontpon early, came in last night thru the storms... bumpy ride i tell ya! so i did my 2 weeks of ensure, lost 10lbs, left for edmonton on june 4th. had my preadmission clinic on the 4th, it took most of the day and was very imformative. they did labs, saw blood bank for typing and to give consent for transfusion. had ekg, saw anisthetist, respirologist, had ekg and a chest xray. they showed a video showing the places and steps id be taking the next day. it really put my mind at ease. then surg on tues the 5th, went ok, but there were complications. they had to reintubate me in recovery cuz i stopped breathing, and my surgeon told me that during surg i bled profusly everywhere they tried to touch me. he blames some of my herbal supplements i had been on, which btw i had gotten the ok from my dietition. once up in my room my heart rate was up and i had to be on oxygen the whole time i was there. i think alot was cuz i was withdrawing from my psych meds. the day of surg i got up to use the biffy, my back of all things was in agony and i was allowed no fluids also switched myself to plain codeine instead of morphine cuz i felt that aws affecting my oxygen. my nurse was so freakin attentive! i loved her! day two i had my 2nd leak test, and passed, after that i was allowed to sip 30ml of water every 15 mins for the rest of the day, the worst of my pain was in my tailbone for some reason, which is still causing me alot of pain even now, i cant sit, i have to lean to one side. strange! then day 3, moving half decent walked the halls of hospital a bit protein shakes, puddings, ect. then that night they took my drain out!!!! man did that suck!! the grossest thing ive ever felt in my life! friday,day4 they released me to the hotel. i walked have decent, was getting lots of fluids in, like a litre that day they were pleased. couldnt take the hotel anymore so i flew home early and am so glad to be home, i missed my husband so much! and my baby girl! ill post later about my poor roommates, yikes! thank you to all the well wishers, and for keeping me in your thoughts, your supportive energies were felt.

I know exactly what you mean about the back pain. I had numbness in my arm the first day and awful pain in my left hip and numbness down the outside of my left leg which is just starting to get a bit better now. The doctor and I believe it was the length of time laid out on the very hard operating table. I think it is a sciatic nerve problem which I have had a bit of trouble with before but the great thing is that now that I have lost 30 pounds I can do the necessary stretching that I had so much trouble doing before. Glad you're home and doing well and hopefully over the worst. Take good care of yourself!
