Hi Alle,

Thanks for the support it has been a rough one.  I am sorry I did'nt make it to the M&G
my daughter Graduated on Wed from Red River and er were doing the mother
daughter weekend thing & I don't get them as often as I would like.

I hope I am well enough to make it to the next one as I would love to meet some
of you.  Plus it will give me a reason to go to the city. ha ha as it gets lonley
out here in the bush.

Did you have the VSG or RNY? 

Did you have a problem with bad breath from the Optifast diet? 

I had the RNY, and I don't think I had bad breath....no one said anything!

Congrats. I just had the VSG May 29 (Tues). Dr. Andrew came in and said, depending on how I felt, I was allowed to go home after 24 hors. I thought that was way too quick as you don' t really know how you will take in liquids until after the end of the first day, so don't go home too quick. Even if the first day goes well, the second day may be different, which is what happened to me. As soon as I tried to taken a bit more, I got really nautious and threw up a few times..not fun! I had no pain from the surgery itself, only from taking in liquids too fast. Needless to say Wednesday was not a good day for me so I said I was staying. Thursday, when I woke up I was feeling much better, but I pretty much had not taken in much at all since Wednesday afternoon. I took breakfast very slow and it went ok. I told the nurse, if lunch goes down ok, then I will go home
Thursday night. All went well, so I discharged myself on Thursday about 4:00 pm. Without any pain medication and have taken nothing since being home..no pain! They never rushed me out, they pretty much left it up to me. I would say to you, if Wednesday goes well for you, then you may want to go home Wednesday night or Thursday morning as I barely got any sleep there anyways and ended up with a headache the whole time. Once I left and got a good sleep, the headache went away.
I was on Optifast also. I mixed it with cold chi tea and I loved it. I
liked the vanilla better, but both are ok.

Thanks for the great information.  That is what I was worried about if they sent you home to soon as I am one of those better be safe than sorry.  It is really nice to hear that they don't rush you out the door.  I am sure some people have went home too soon and had what happened to you
and then ended up in emerg. This is really good information for all of us.

How much weight did you loose on the Optifast?  As I look at your weight loss so far you are doing GREAT as you can see I am drooling.

I have heard that there is a problem with bad breath on the diet did you have this?

It is so encouraging to see your progress and others on this site.

I lost 10 pounds on the 2 week Optifast diet. I lost the rest between October, when I got my acceptance letter and now, probable about 45 pounds all together. Dr Andrew thanked me, saying I am one of the smallest girls he has done surgery on and it made his job a heck of a lot easier. Hope we met you one day. I have never been to any of the meet and greets, but would like to start. Barb C

I was just thinking, one of the ladies at the last m&g you had her surgery a year ago did comment on having bad breath and keeping a stack of the listerine breath strips on hand at all times, as well as gas x.  So far I haven't needed either.

Great news!! Now you can just relax and prepare for the surgery. Exciting.

 
so excited for you robynjoy!! ive been buying for my optifast diet this week...some diet pop, sugarfree strawberry syrup, and sugarfree caramel and vanilla syrup. plus i got two shaker cups from GNC apparently they mix up shakes the best, theres a little wire wisk ball that floats around when you shake the water, powder mixture! hoping to make some italian soda with carbonated water and strawberry SF syrup :) Liquid Diet is on tuesday!
