TMI BM info
I have not had a bm since surgery until tonight, it was incredibly small, and only happened because I took an exlax! I don't feel great either, and I am assuming it's because I am carrying all this **** around with me!!! HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What can we take to help this out?? exlax is probably not the best choice but I am desperate! I drank a cup of coffee, and then followed it up by a cup of ho****er, then I finally felt the urge, then almost NOTHING...
sorry for being so graphic, but I need you!

Part of the issue is that we eat so little now. Another can be the surgery and the drugs they use can make us sluggish ( or paralyze the bowels in nasty cases post op - its why nurses love to know you are passing gas or having bms) Make sure you are drinking as much as you can as well. I bought pear juice and that seems to help as well ( read it was as good as prunes)
I have always been sluggish anyway and prone to constipation anyway. I've been so bad since the surgery - and it's been 2 months ! I take stool softeners ( colace or ducosate or restorlax) everyday and then have to resort to senna ( I believe ex lax has senna now ) or suppositories . I tried wholly tea as well but it really didn't do much .

Oh how awful! What about prune juice? I too have been having pear juice and not sure if thats doing it but Im the opposite of you.(liquid in = liquid out) Cant really be too far from a bathroom.
I did buy Milk of Magnesia to have in the house should I need it. I read it somewhere on here that that was a good option..I have never used it so I dont know how fast it works. Also, someone on here also started taking a stool softener everyday after surgery just to keep things moving in the right direction..maybe that would help? It wont alleviate the problem right now, which is of course what you need, but it will help in days to come. And of course, theres always a suppository..

'Smooth Moves' tea (Organic section at Superstore) worked WONDERS for me! I didn't want to take it every night so I alternated with senokot-S for the first few weeks after surgery....'surgeon' and 'Laura' approved.
Once I could start eating solids, I started eating dates.
I LOVE them...I had to try several different kinds before I found one I liked. I eat 3 a day and I am completely regular. I went away for a week and didn't take any with me and I had major constipation issues. When I returned home and started my 'Date regimen' again, I was right back on track.
I keep a good supply of the tea on hand if I'm ever "stuck"...but that's very rare these days.
Good luck!...and don't worry about TMI...that's what this forum is for!

I am at Day 15 post op now and I had some of the same problems as you are having. What worked well for me was I bought a couple of jars of baby food prunes. I have a teaspoon or two every onther day and I have been doing pretty good. I am averaging a bm every other day. I do have to pay attention after breakfast and when the rumbling starts have to make a quick step path to the bathroom!
unfourtunatly this is a side effect from our surgery.get used to not going regularly.i am totally happy if i go every other day.i am now taking stool softners.i do resort to restoralax if things are not moving.
i understand completly how you feel.i have gone 2 weeks without very recently but that was due to all the meds they had me on.it will get better i promise

Thanks for all the tips ladies! I have been pushing the water today and tried the pear juice and I POOPED!!!
never have I been so happy, and I feel better too!
I think it might have been because I was more active today, did a few chores around the house, and in the yard. No heavy lifting though :)
I am going to have a nap..

Please try Miralax or Laxaday or a store brand. You can mix it in your water/juice and I didn't taste anything different when I would mix it. It is great to get your body going. I had to use it for about 7-8 weeks in the beginning. I do not feel like my body got addicted to it and I haven't needed it for over a year.
I hope this helps.
