Hello, My name is Diane ........... lol.
Seriously how long after surgery can we have alcohol? Not that I am planning on becoming a raging alcoholic or anything (although I have read alot about "transfer addictions", I think I will take on a shopping addiction tee hee) . I am getting different reports on having a drink or two and the timeline. Anyone out there with some insight or experience?

LOL ... Been married before and I swore I wouldn't do it again... Fate laughed and I fell in love with a wonderful goofy funny guy .... I met Shawn almost 4 years ago and we became friends first and starting seeing eaching and then living together just under 3 years ago. I went from being single with my own little house with my 2 weird cats to living in a house with my fiance , 2 kids, 2 dogs and now 4 cats. Talk about change lol.
Now having a step daughter who is a teenager -now THAT will drive me to drink if anything does lol...
seriously they are great kids. We have a great relationship with their Mom. I was her maid of honor when she got married in January , and Shawn walked her down the aisle.

I am about 8 months out...I had my first glass of wine at about 3 months out.
The thing is, you feel tipsy/drunk faster (just a few sips at first) but you sober up much faster also.
I don't really time it around my eating. I find that when I nurse a glass of wine, I can stay steady for awhile.
I enjoy a glass of wine a few times a week. On the long weekend, I had a couple of coolers (smirnoff ice light)...went down just fine.
Just be careful the first time...do it in the privacy of your own home without any strangers around ...just in case you get REALLY funny!
I haven't had any issues with transfer addiction....although maybe shopping!!

I think I waited til about 6 mos out to have a margarita. My hubby made it for me at home and it was awesome! I made sure I sipped slowly and had plenty of water too. NO hangovers that way either. I did find that if i was feeling to tipsy that I would want to eat a cracker or two. Maybe soak up the alcohol and slow it down a bit?..LOL
I think being aware that transfer addcition is a possiblity makes us more responsible. I am very careful with how and when I have alcohol, and chocolate and cake ....etc.

LOVE it rainyone! It is soooo nice when blended families get along. Don't worry about your forties, between the love of your life and the new, healthier body, your 40s are going to be the best years of your life!!!!!
now I wish I could say something positive about teenagers........

I had my first alcoholic drink last month...about 3 months out and I was scared to drink it. It was a Shmirnoff Ice. It took me 2 hours to drink! haha...what a cheap date I've turned out to be. With the first few sips I felt the carbonation go all the way from my tongue to my bladder...okay, maybe not my bladder, but I felt those bubbles go all the way down to dark depths of my lower abdomen. Weird feeling.
I was 10 months out when I had my first few drinks. I honestly didn't notice a difference and I had several that night. I would definitely avoid any type of drink with carbonation though, as this still affects me in a negative way. I think as long as it's in moderation, I wouldn't worry about it. My biggest reason for waiting so long is I didn't want the calories!
