I am so grateful that I have started to eat some real food with no problems ( touch wood ).  My switch to pureed food was a breeze and I am now experimenting more.  Had a tiny bit of meatloaf with mushroom gravy and some mashed potato for supper today.  I chewed, chewed and chewed somemore.  Waited for some sort of reaction got none so I ate another bite and so on and so on.  It was great!  Have been eating beans, cottage cheese, yogurt, tinned salmon, eggs, tomato and not a single problem.  Incisions are healing nicely.  Got in a lot of walking yesterday and was really tired today so I rested most of the day.  Family BBQ tomorrow and no one other than my husband and inlaws know about my surgery so this could be interesting.

I am trying to let my taste buds lead me to the next foods I am going to try.  Need to start trying my vitamins and counting my protein.  Made a great drink today  pureed raspberries added to pink lemonade crystal light....yummmy!

Things I have been eating are:

Raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, oatmeal, skim milk, apple juice, eggs,  tinned salmon, pork & beans, l% cottage cheese, low fat string cheese, applesauce, Mott's fruitsations no sugar added freezies ( love these ) meatloaf with gravy, ham, yogurt.

The BBQ went very well, I told the family I had had surgery as they were beginning to sense something was up.  Just didn't go into details.  We had brought steak for all the adults and some of the kids, but there were also mini burgers from m&m's for the kids so I had one of those without a bun, some potato salad, cucumber, tomato, and a tiny bit of cheese.  All went down very well,   I had also brought along some of the fruit freezies for the kids and I had one of those instead of lusting after the pies, tarts, cake and sticky buns.

Had my first restaurant meal last night.  I learned a valuable lesson.  I ordered bacon and eggs with dry rye toast and a fruit cup.  I thought I would eat one of the two eggs and just try a bite of bacon and toast with a bit of peanut butter.  Well,  old habits die hard....when I was looking at the food on my plate part of me still wanted try to fini**** all ( my mama loved clean plates!)
I ate most of the two eggs, had about 2/3 of a piece of bacon and half a piece of toast with a tiny bit of peanut butter and took the fruit salad home.  I felt like I had overeaten and had an uncomfortable ride home.  I am finding I don't get a really strong "I'm full, stop eating" signal.  What I am finding is that if I measure out my food and stop eating when I eel satisfied and wait for few minutes my feeling of wanting to eat more goes away.  So I need to stop eating before I feel any signs off being full and wait,...it comes!

I can honestly say I have had no nausea at all, except for overeating a bit last night I have had no discomfort with anything I have eaten.  I am trying to chew very well, eat slowly, keep my food moist in texture and stop before I feel full.

Hope that helps.

That really helps alot! According to my doctors plan and I had the VSG, I wouldnt be having this kind of stuff for awhile, but knowing that real food is in the future makes my tummy happy. Who thought I'd get excited over cottage cheese? So glad all is going well with  you!

Madelaine, I certainly don't want to encourage you to do anything that's not part of your Dr.'s plan for you, I am just sharing how things are going for me. I do know what you mean about being excited by the prospect of cottage cheese. I couldn't believe how much pleasure a can of baked beans brought me.....the craving for it was crazy. Had a small piece of baked fish, 1 piece of fresh asparagus and 1 tbsp of brown rice for supper tonight and it was sooooooo yummy. Before I would have eaten 10 x what I did tonight and still be looking for dessert.

Good luck on your journey, rest lots and sip, sip, sip!!!!
