Hello, New here
Hi, I am Shauna and I'm glad to have found this forum. I am considering WLS and am on the list. I have gotten a pkg that says I do meet the requirements and am on the wait list. I think it's a 18 month or so wait.
I also got the options that I can have. Gastric Bypass seems to be the most common and has the best stats. But VSG sounds like a better option tho it says that 20% of people need further surgery. For those that have had surgery or have booked surgery - how did you decide which procedure to have?
It's really great to talk to local people that have experience with WLS. I have some friends in the US that have done it but the Canadian system is so different that it will be good to have some help in navigating it.

Hi Shauna and Welcome to the board. This is a great place to get info, share problems, worries, downfalls and triumphs.
I personally chose to have RNY for a couple of reasons. 1. It had the highest amount of weight loss and it fit in nicely with how much weight I wanted to lose. 2. It had the lowest fail rate and that made me more comfortable with my decision. 3. Which may just be a factor in my case in that I was able to get the RNY about 2 months sooner than a VSG, but that was just the way things worked out for me.
Good luck on your journey.

Welcome Shauna! I'm on the waitlist for the waitlist because in 2010 my BMI was 57. I've got it down to 51 and still plugging away. These people are awesome at support and you're always welcome here. When my turn comes I'm going VSG because it keeps the digestion process closest to "normal". Glad you're here!
