i read your posts daily. I was excited when i found this site. I am so happy and excited for all of you who have had or will be having their surgeries.  To me I think of it as being re-born giving you a brand new start @ life.  I am having a hard time to keep coming back here, as there doesnt seem to be anyone else in my boat. Having been refused here in Wpg because i am too big.  I have not seen my family Dr yet. but I am not sure what he is going to have to say about refering me elsewhere.  and we cant afford for me to pay.  So forgive me for disappearing from here for a while. as i dont feel like I fit in anywhere, tis why i never showed up at the last m&g.
I wish you all a wonderful new life.

Trish ,  I belive there are alot of us who know are in that boat , even thou some have been accepted does not promise us a sugery .. From what i have read the criteria is gonna open up and those who did not fit criteria are put back into the spots they would have had they met the current criteria so some people will even be ahead of those  who currently meet criteria . Id realy like it if you continued to be apart of this site and the meet and greets , personally i have not been to a meet and greet yet but do plan to go . Alot of us here do not have the option of going eleswere  ( mine is a medical issue more so then a money one , For my own reasons i feel more comfortable with Dr Andrew and his team as he is currently a Dr of mine .)
The support from the people here is amazing , I belive we all have and or are going threw the same emotions you currently have  . even my husband loves that i look here for answers . I think you can still get alot out of sticking around here , i know i can

Trish, when I first found this site, I had just been accepted. I was ecstatic and loved reading everyones threads. THEN, the criteria changed and the wait times moved from 1 year to 3-5 years. It really depressed and discouraged me as I was reading of all these people recooperating and some heading in for surgery. It was really hard to be here too but I kept reading lots of different threads, even over on the VSG forum. It may not happen for you right away, but reading how other people are going through the motions might be helpful as you wait for your time. Im pretty sure there are people here who just lurk and dont post who are in the same boat as you. If nothing else for now, we are here to encourage and support you. Don't give up!

I'm too fat for WLS in Manitoba.  I was referred in March of 2010 and quickly rejected.  When I learned that I was too big, I sat in my endocrinologist's office and bawled asking why would someone like me be turned down when she said I was the perfect candidate.  It's really insulting to be told you're too big for life saving surgery.

I was referred to a doctor who could refer out of province but that took another year.  I was just contacted in March to be advised he has sent ANOTHER referral to Edmonton because it's been a year without any word.

I'm lucky because the switch flipped for me and I'm making better choices for myself.  I'm working to get my BMI down to 47 which is still about 30 lbs away.  It's really difficult to see new members post about referrals, acceptances and group sessions knowing I've been on a wait list for 2 years.

You need to make the decision that you're worth it, Trish.  We have all learned the hard way that ultimately we have to fight for ourselves.  So if MB won't take you, push your doctor to refer you elsewhere.  You ARE worth it.  Believe it.

Trish, please don't feel that you are alone. I am also in the"too fat" category and am on the waiting list for Winnipeg. I cried for 2 days I was so disappointed over my rejection. I went through the same feelings when Medicine Hat turned me away not because of my weight but because of my age and the fact I would be too old for their program by the time my name came up. I was even more disapointed when Regina said no because they don't generally take people from out of province any more. Each time I was told to apply to in province programs so the circle continues. I also tried Edmonton but the extensive travel and costs were too much financially and with having a special needs child just not realistic.
I was rejected in Jan of 2011 and am hopeful that when they open the criteria I will eventually get a call. Until then I try to eat well and exercise so I am ahead of the game.
I hope you continue to check in. These ladies offer me inspiration of what life will be like after surgery but also have given me hope that my turn will come.
Please feel free to inbox me if you would like to talk.

Hi tri****oo was refused because I was too big. I was also refused from Dr. Nohr in Medicine hat for being too big. Manitoba has 47 bmi cut off, and Dr.Nohr has cut off 55 bmi. I am 63 bmi, if I could get down to 55 bmi I could get in in just a few months with Dr.Nohr. That just seems like an impossible task while I am fighting depression and other health issues. YOUR NOT ALONE . Pm me if you or any one else needs to talk.
