Count Down Begins
Well it's Day 1 of the pre-op diet and I am feeling good. I can't believe that 2 weeks from today I will be in an operating room on the way to a new way of living. I had a fabulous roast beef dinner at home last night with my husband and a glass of champagne to mark the occasion. This followed a great 3 hour lunch with a dear friend. I am gonna try to make the meet and greet tomorrow and just drink tea and water if I'm not too cranky by then.
Redid my measurements today, took before photos and weighed myself. Now I gotta tidy up things at work for my absence and do some major house cleaning at home. Can't wait to check the days off the calendar and get started. A book I just finished recommended doing a "Dear Me" letter to record how you feel now, what your struggles have been with your weight, what you hope to gain, what you hope to lose etc! Then tuck it away and read it a year from now...then write a new one. I may just do this.
I approached a woman I know in my town that I suspected had had the surgery and I was correct she had RNY in 2006. She has not been public about it, so I had to approach it very delicately but when I told her I was scheduled to have mine in 2 weeks she was happy to talk to me about her experiece and offered her support should I wish to talk more. I am so glad to have someone so close I can talk to about this, but I am equally grateful to have this forum available to me and all you great people to help guide me, and to share my rambling thoughts with. So Thanks!

Sounds like you are almost ready to go..good for you. I am three weeks away but you just reminded me about measurements and pictures..have to do that tonight so I have the dreaded "before|" picture..but this time it will be one I will be proud to show! That so nice you have someone close by to talk to..there are some women here who I know have had it, but they do not discuss it at all. Wish they would be a little more open so that others could garner some of their insight..oh well to each his own!
Good luck with the pre-op..it sounds hard but keep your eye on the prize (thats what I keep telling myself, lol)

Day 2 and I am feeling really good ( shocked )! I don't feel hungry yet and I find the optifast palatable when I add some of the sugar free flavouring I bought. Saved some of my vanilla shake from last night to add to a cup off decaf coffee this morning and it was fine.
One thing I did notice last night as I watched some TV is that 4 out of 5 commercials are about food.....and not good nutritious food.

I knew you'd find the Optifast not too bad. And if you're doing this well now, it will only get easier as the days progress. And as for those dang commercials...I noticed them too!! They're everywhere!!!

I am going to post abit more about my optifast experience for those who will be going through it soon. I like both flavours equally but I have been adding liquid sugarfree flavourings I bought at Walmart in the US. Caramel is great, raspberry is good. I got a coffee that is nice too. I am really surprised that I don't feel hungry, now I don't feel full after it either but my mind is not on my tummy. I could have done without the 4th one last night but I managed to drink it. Not sure if this is related but I have slept great the last two nights! Still have to get up for bathroom trips but I have slept throught till morning without my usual 2-4 am wakefullness.
I was worreid about constipation but that has not been an issue in fact is was the opposite this morning. I felt my stomach gurggling and then wow.....fast trip to the bathroom. Hope that settles down That may be too much info some and if so I apologize but for those yet to start it may be good info to have.
I have been getting 4-6 glasses of water down quite easliy and have not been craving coffee. I was a 4-6 cup a day gal but I have only had a half cup today and yesterday. Tea has been nice in the evenings. 12 more days to go!

I actually found the optifast not bad taste wise... better than a lot of protein shakes out there. Now I didn't do 2 weeks of it ( my pre op was basically 3 days of yogurt and water ) but those days were tough... So much food around that I couldn't have. That and going off caffeine at the same time! yikes I was a total witch lol... But after the surgery the food commercials didn't bother me , and same with other people eating!
Day 3 was hardest so far. Not terrible just had an urge to nibble in the evening. I tried to keep busy and not notice my husband cooking and eating his supper. Weighed this morning and I am down 5.4 lbs in 3 days. Woo Hoo!! I am on the run today so I have packed all my supplies to I can go drink my lunch in my car and keep my water bottled filled and close at hand.
Had a iced mochachino for breakfast ( can't remember who told me about it at the M&G ) Cold coffee, ice and chocolate optifast.....YUMMMMMMMY!
