Well, first, I know I have alot of nerve to ask here..as I have only made it to one M&G..anxiety plagues me in social situations. I try to tell myself..Just go..and act like I am comfortable..but I can't yet.
But, if someone could advise me I would appreciate it very much.
I am concerned about my eating. I had my surgery march 6..and by the 2nd day I was feeling fine.
It is now just going into the 4th week, and I find I can eat.more then I thought i should be able too. Read that some ppl can only have at the most 3/4 c of food..I can easily have that..and more. I believe I am hungry..I am doing my best to keep my food very healthy, protein, first..I am still on minced food..I have soup alot..but I just feel somehow, something doesn't seem right. Should I actually feel hunger?
Does anyone else eat more then they were told they would be able to?
I have not lost any more weight since being out of the hospital, and I am thinking it is because I eat too much!
I read where ppl are having to get smaller clothes, and that has yet to happen to me..i still wear the same clothes as before..(they just fit better now)
It may sound off beat, but I sometimes wonder if there was a "placebo" group in the surgery, where you didn't actually get the surgery, but they wanted to see the differences in the real surgery, and what would happen if you were to believe you have the surgery?..Crazy yes, I know..but I actually feel that sometimes.
I am kicking myself for not going to that last M&G..I should of just sucked up my fears and went.
I will try harder, as i would luv to get to know you all much better.
Any help would be appreciated!

Well Kareanne I havent been to a meet and greet or even had surgery yet, but first I want to commend you for going through with the surgery even when you talk of your anxiety issues. Good for you for not backing out on that..and believe me, if you can do that, then a meet and great should be nothing. Im pretty sure you would do just fine. As for the eating thing, from what I have been reading, and its ALOT, maybe the stitching they did was not as close to the bougie and therefore yiu have more volume than someone else?? I would ask the surgeon of course to see if this could possibly be a concern, I would feel the same way as you..thinking they tricked me, lol. I sure hope you get some answers..
If you are only 4 weeks out and can have more than a cup of food at a time, it may be a good idea to talk to your surgeon. I can easily have 1-1.5 cups of food at once, but it took at least 3-4 months to get there.
If you are concerned about weight loss - it isn't uncommon for people to plateau for about three weeks after surgery. So if it just numbers on the scale, that could start to move really soon.
I understand the stress of meeting new people, but we are a really easy going bunch and everyone is always welcome. You could also bring a friend to the next meet & greet if that would make it easier.
In the meantime, feel free to ask as many questions as you wish!

Hi Karenanne
My story sounds similar to yours. I had the VSG in Mexico on Feb 6 and felt great the next day. I've had really slow weight loss, so far only 24 lb in almost two months since surgery. It's kind of disappointing, because I was told by the nutritionist most people lose about 30 lb the first month, 20 lb the second, then it slows down to about 10 lb a month. On the other hand, I'm hoping I won't have as much loose saggy skin since I'm losing so slowly.
I've had long stretches where I didn't lose anything either (which I've heard is completely normal). I also felt really hungry for a while, probably around the end of the first month, although part of it might have been excess acid. I just did my best to ignore it. I was also probably spacing my meals too far apart so I was actually really hungry! I'm eating somewhere between 800 and 1000 calories a day. I don't think the feeling of hunger is going to go away for me, but it's early days yet. I'm not sure that it's supposed to be entirely gone.
You will also be able to take in a lot more liquid than solids. Are you following the no liquids before and after solids rule?
I definitely know I had the surgery. When I drink or eat anything, my stomach feels a completely different sensation than before I had surgery and it was really pronounced immediately following surgery. And if you can only eat a limited amount, it's unlikely you didn't have surgery. (I'm not sure if you had the VSG or roux-en-Y, so I don't know if people with roux-en-Y have the same weird stomach feelings that I have.) I honestly don't think they would be trying to do any kind of studies with placebo weight loss surgery at this point. It's been around for many years and I wouldn't be surprised if that was done to some poor unsuspecting patients long ago.
I've just told myself it is the way it is and I'm obviously one of those people who isn't going to have huge weight loss quickly. If you're really concerned, maybe you could see your nutritionist again for advice. (I haven't been to a meet & greet either. I get all gung-ho thinking about going, but then chicken out.)

Thanks for the feedback!.I truely appreciate the advice.
Perhaps I am expecting too much, too soon.
I am gong to try to slow down myself, and really follow all the rules. No, I have not followed the drinking and eating rule..and I likely need to slopw down on my chewing.
I will have to make more of an effort I suppose to make sure I am doing everything right.
I have tried to get into the Surgeans and Dietician earlier then my scheduled app't, but was told it was too early.
Thanks again for your ears..and your advice!
