Criteria

I have a question that I can't seem to find a forum to ask it on.  Hopefully someone will be able to help me out with this.  My question is, does anyone from Manitoba know whether the pilot project for bariatric surgery has been expanded by the Manitoba Government to include people that did not meet the criteria that was set up for that program.  I did not meet the criteria apparently at that time even though they sent me a form letter saying I did meet the criteria and later changed their mind and told me I didn't after waiting a long period of time.  I had my Dr. inquire after 3 months went by and I hadn't heard anything and that is when they told my Dr. I didn't meet the criteria.  Now apparently I am on the OTHER list!!  Has anyone heard whether more funding has come in and the criteria has opened up for the rest of us?

The problem is, the criteria changes.

The Main Criteria are as follows:
-female
-under 55 years
-BMI >35 and less than 50
At one time you needed at least one co-morbidity.

When I was approved, I was told that there was to be zero Co-Morbidities.

I recieved the letter saying that I was an ideal candidate in Feb.  I was reffered in Dec.
So now I am waiting for the letter for the Group Session.

Hope this helps.

I was refered in the fall and also was declined as my BMI is too high. My letter said that I would go onto the list. I tried to look for info on the MRHA site and I had no luck. If you find anything out, please let us know,
thanks

ok...really? It seems the info changes every time I check. There is a thread on here saying that the Manitoba program is no longer considered a pilot. Which would mean it has opened and there is now a large waiting list.
And I was told minimal co-morbidities. I mean, how many people are going to have a BMI of 35-49 and NOT have co-morbidities???
Does anyone know where we can get real information about the program?
According to the news story, the program has NOT opened up, and co-morbidities are acceptable, since we have Dr. Andrew saying that the surgery is to help with co-morbidities:

No kidding...and exactly.  Who has no co-morbidities at our weight..duh!!! The thing that really ticked me off was that I have a letter stating I met the criteria......then a month later I didn't.  Not sure how that happens.

You could try writing Theresa Oswalds office but good luck getting anything other than a form letter..The last thing I heard about this prgram, about a month ago on the news, was the program was under review and Manitobans were anxiously awaiting to hear what the government had determined. That decision was supposed to be in  2-3 months so almost anytime now..but I keep checking the government website for any releases and none yet. Very frustrating!

Thank you Madelaine2000.  I, as well, phoned and wrote Ms Oswald, and received the same form letter as apparently everyone else.  As well I have been waiting for the government to announce something and I think that was what O'Flarety announced about no increase in spending for the health care systems.  Not sure what that means for us, but I'm not holding my breath.
