Will Manitoba cover Panni?
Does anyone know requirements for panni in Manitoba? I recently moved here and was still a little over goal when my surgeon in Alberta would do it. I am now covered by Manitoba health and nearly at the goal that the surgeon in Alberta would do it BUT now I have to deal with Manitoba Health instead of Alberta health does anyone know what hoops I have to jump thru in order to get Manitoba health to cover? So depressing if I could have got small enough before we had to move I just had to call surgeon (It was same one who did my gastric bypass so he would take care of everything) Also need to know if anyone has had breast reduction too and if that is covered how you get that.. Do I need to see a dr everytime I get a skin rash or can I just take pics etc?? Any help would be great..also i anything else is covered that I may not know about please let me know Im sooo lost..Also if you know good surgeons who I can suggest my dr gets referqaal to would be great..My new dr has never had to deal with gastric bypass patient before so quite the learning curve(in small town so another dr not an option)
The answers for my questions are not on that site I want to know if anyone has had it done here. Was it covered or not. That info is not on the site. And what is proper procedure here in Manitoba (it is different in Alberta for exaple I recently had to drive hrs for an ultrasound there were private clinics in Alberta that did that you did go to the hospital as walk in for that. Also if anyone knows what the requirements are..for example in Ontario you need a documented history showing why you need it done in Alberta you had to loose over 100lbs and be under 200lbs for it to be medically covered.
I can give you information on the breast reduction question. I had one done 11 years ago. You will need a referral to a plastic surgeon who performs the procedure. If you are having problems with neck and back pain, shoulder ridges from bra straps, etc. from the weight of your breasts, the surgeon will submit a request to Manitoba Health stating that it's medically necessary and giving the reasons. As long as it's medically necessary, it will be approved. If it's strictly for cosmetic reasons, Manitoba Health won't cover it.
Sorry, I have no information about the panniculectomy, but I'm pretty sure it's a lot more difficult to get here than it sounds like it is in Alberta.

I live here in Winnipeg and had my Surgery in Alberta. I have not had it yet but because I was reffered out of province and he recommends it, it will be covered for me. I am not sure how it works if you started in Alberta and moved here. You can call them and ask, you might want to check with the dr as well.
