I had  horrible stomach pain yesterday from something I ate and my first thought was ....... If  get the surgery I could feel like this all the time ... yuck !
I was wondering how people are feeling physically after surgery .

Hi

I don't think you would have stomach pain all the time!  I had VSG Feb 6.  I have some discomfort when I eat too much -- I haven't learned yet when NOT to take that last bite.  I certainly don't have anything that I would consider pain, though.  If there is something that bothers you now, logically it would still bother you afterwards, so you would probably want to avoid it.  I find vegetables are still hard on my stomach (even cooked, particularly carrots), but the raw fruits I've tried are fine. I expect it will keep improving as time goes on from all that I've read.

Hey Dianne,

I'm surprised your eating carrots, certain raw fruit. I was explicitly told not too eat these yet as they can convert to a high sugar content and along with overeating can slow your progress ultimately rendering your surgery ineffective. To avoid this try measuring out your portions before each meal. perhaps getting in contact with a local dietitan can help you work on this. I have a couple names if you'd like.

My diet instructions include pureed vegetables and mashed potatoes in the soft diet phase and the very first item listed on the full food phase is skinless fruit.  Of course the top item is protein-rich foods.  I never eat fruit or vegetables without some form of protein at the same time. I'm certainly not over-eating. I just haven't quite got the knack of telling when my stomach is full enough that I need to stop without taking that last bite so I don't feel uncomfortable.

The first  day after I pretty much slept..

day after, I had pain, but was not allowed any pain mediction as my oxygyen get lowering past 80..(they want it to be at 92 at least)..the pain was managble tho..

I started walking slowly with help,..then quickly was walking the halls by myself with no pain..

I am home now..one week out..I have never felt pain, but am aware of my stiches healing..(itchy)

One thing that does make me wonder tho is..I am getting hungry!!!..real hunger...I can eat a banana..container of greek yougurt..and a protien shake..I feel full..but not so stuffed I hurt..

I am surprised I can eat this much...it scares me abit to be honest...maybe in time it will change..I don't know..but tthis part scares me aboutn the eating...

The surgery for me went by very easy..I have heard of others who had a very hard time after surgery.

 Hi
I had rny 23-jan. I feel pretty good for the most part-occasional pains but I feel better more than I dont.  I still have no hunger but I think I feel full.  I never eat more than 2oz at a time and have a hard time understanding if a food agrees with me or not.  Nothing has made me sick but some things seem to leave me uncomfortable.  I am so glad I did this!  Kj

Well I had a stomach bug a few days ago which i found it a challenge to stay hydrated with my new tiny tummy but I did it. I got a little worried on the morning of 2nd day but a quick call to my surgeon and dietitan eased my fears, by that eve i was doing much better. So other than that I am following my post op nutrition plan with no exceptions and I am doing great!
