It's actually my turn and I can't believe it!!  I'm on day 6 of my 14 day pre-op diet and I'm already down 10 lbs.  My surgery is scheduled for March 19/12.  My only reservation is how long I should expect to be off work.  Can you ladies give me an idea of how long before you returned to work?  (I have a desk job requiring minimal physical activity.)

Hi Heather,

Time will go faster now that your turn is here.
Just wanted to let you know I was off of work for 6 weeks after my RNY surgery.  Hope this helps.
All the best and get lots of rest.

Hi Heather,

kind off topic of returning to work, I was wondering about the pre-op, you say you've lost 10lbs already, wow, i'm doing my pre-op right now too, but i have to be on mine for 3 weeks instead of 2.  I know something is happening cause my wedding rings are turning, i was going to weigh in on monday but i'm scared the scale will be the same. :(  have you been exersizing or anything on the pre-op?

Thanks
Nicole

Hey Nicole,

I haven't been exersizing since I've started the diet.  The dietitian told me not to bother cause I likely won't have the engery to do so.  But I've been feeling really good, considering.  The first 3 days were the hardest but now I'm just not very hungry.  (I've only had one shake today.)  I keep myself hydrated by drinking lots of Crystal Light between shakes and have been losing 1 1/2 lbs a day.  I do retain lots of water in general so maybe most of it is just that.   Either way, it's nice to see the numbers on the scale move down for a change.

I only took off 4 weeks. I felt that was adequate. I was VERY ready to return to work...my job requires some movng, walking, crouching, etc and I was just fine.
You should be fine after a few weeks. My energy level was a little bit low but otherwise, physically I felt fine (no pain or anything).
Good luck!!! Congrats!

Hi Heather,

thanks for responding so fast, wow, good for you!! yea i was going to the gym 5 days a week for about 2 hours a morning and i haven't been since i started my shakes either, i started mine March 5th, the first couple days were bad at dinner time as i still have to cook for my husband and kids. But now i'm fine, i can even be in the same room while they're eating. I'm sooo curious to get on the scale monday but oh my i'm so scared the scale won't move.. we'll see!

Yeah for your turn.  I only took off 3 weeks and I am a ER nurse.  Definately not long enough.  You should be good for 3-4 weeks.  All the best with the surgery and I hope you are able to get out for the next M & G.
Take care

Hi Heather

I had a VSG and took three weeks off work and that was plenty for me.  I also have a desk job.  I had an exceptional experience with surgery, though, and never had any pain or discomfort or any problems at all.  I expected to need at least three weeks to recover from the anaesthesia more than anything.
