i would like to know from those people who went out of province what were the steps you had to take in doing so? does it take just a referal from your doctor to those places? was there anything you had to do with manitoba health to get covered for it? or do your doctor or the surgen that does it? i go to my doctor in a month and want to know as much as i can before i see him and ask him to do this for me. can your name be on more than one list at a time? what are the name of the places that you went to? anything would be great.
thank you

FYI, if you read back a few threads there is alot of information on this exact topic. Lots of input from those that took that route..hope that helps.

Hi there,

I went to Mexico to have my surgery actually. I wasn't sure if I was covered here and am not very good at waiting. I had to self pay but it was totally worth it for me. I did save all of my receipts and submitted them when I did my taxes. I did get a portion back. I had to write a letter explaing my health concerns prior to surgry and my how my health has improved since the surgery.
Good Luck

Can I ask where you went  and how was everything at the clinic?

I'm kind of freaked out about going international after reading some posts on other forums. People going to the sme place and having vastly different experiences etc..

Hey Karen..I have been doing alot of reading on this as I  dont know if I can wait the 3-5 years now when I was so pumped at the thought of maybe 18-24 months. Under the forums, click on Mexico and read all about the threads over there. My first thought was NO WAY but once I read up on Dr Ortiz and saw not only the pcitures of the centre, but read his credentials, his is the one I would go with. Now to come up with the $$$...thats harder than the decision to do it.

As long as your are reffered by a doctor to another province I believe it is covered.  That being said I think you can only be reffered out of province if your dont qualify to have it done here.  I had mine done in Medicine Hat.  The total wait time from my refferal to surgery was almost 5 years so the faster you get your refferal in the faster time will start to tick.
