Two week preop diet starts Monday

The countdown is really on now.  Two weeks from tomorrow is my VSG surgery in Tijuana, Mexico. My preop diet is much less rigid than most.  I have protein shakes for breakfast and lunch. The protein shakes can be any variety that you can buy in the store.  I still get to eat some food until the last two days. I  can have plain baked or grilled fish or chicken for supper. I can also have unlimited green vegetables and I can include mushrooms and tomatoes in salads. No dressing, though. They suggest lemon juice.  For the last 48 hours I can only have the shakes.

I've been doing the shakes for breakfast and lunch since September to lose the weight they required, although sometimes having something extra at lunch.  I've had lots of salads for lunch, but having no dressing is going to be pretty bland. I've bought some seasoning I hope will help.

Starting to get nervous now!

Hi Diane;

I am so excited for you! You are about to embark on the ride of your life! The fact that you have already lost weight in order to have the surgery in the first place means that you are primed for success.

(I envy you that you are able to eat some real food pre-op. I hated the shakes and only got them down because I had to.)

I was nervous before my surgery too. I remember being wheeled down to the operating room wondering what on earth I had signed up for. Looking back, it was just last minute jitters. I have absolutely no regrets.

Best of luck!

Tanya

Tanya, thanks for the encouragement. I'm trying to keep focused on what's down the road.  I'm looking forward to the spring & summer when we go to the lake and I will (hopefully) be able to help my husband more with his little projects instead of sitting and watching, as well as plant our little garden and weed and water without so much trouble.

I'm sure I will have the same thoughts, wondering if I've lost my mind having this surgery. I had the same thoughts ten years ago when I was going in for breast reduction surgery. I ignored those thoughts then, so I will do the same this time!

The other concern is the travel warnings for Mexico, particularly around the U.S./Mexico border. Since we will be in a company bus with an escort and then going to a five-star hotel and back and forth to the hospital, I hope there will be nothing to really worry about.  Hundreds of people go down to Mexico for surgery every month.

Now I get to go and sit in a meeting and watch everyone eat Subway sandwiches! Yippee!

I too echo Tanya excitement for you. I do not regrete getting this surgery. It really has been one of the best things I have done in my life.

I know 2 other groups that are going down to Mexico this month. You won't be the only Canadian there

Good luck with everything. You sound like you are already on the right track.

Have fun in Mexico,

Mich

I feel kinda the same way, I'm a bundle of nerves and shaking my head. I started my liquid diet today and reading what you have I got slight envy, I can live without most of the solid food but salads is what I will really miss.

I wish you all the best with pre-op and surgery!

You must be so excited.  Good luck with the shakes-you are fortunate to be able to enjoy some real food with them.  Just had my surgery today and am so excited for those up and coming for surgery.  Have a great dat.
