Hello I was just curious if anyone has had an appt with the surgeon after they attended the group session. What is the first appt all about? And how soon after the group sessions are people getting appts with the surgeon?

Hi there,

I have been on this site since probably about october learning from everyone here.  I have decided to finally join in since my appointment with the surgeon is coming up.

I was at the group session on Nov 16th and have my surgeon appointment on January 12th.  I don't know if that is typical.  I really, really, really hope the timeline for the surgery would be before summer.

Were you at the same session as me?  Do you have a surgeon appointment?

I'd love to hear from anyone...

Hi I was at the November 30th session and I have an appt with the surgeon Jan 4. I'm not really sure what to expect. I guess I'm kind of nervous. I just want to hear the words that they will do the surgery. They want patients to bring the food and exercise diary......any idea what they are looking for? Have you heard of anyone who has had an appt after a session? I am hoping that I'm doing everything right.

I'm not sure either but from what I've read, I think the surgeons want to see that we really are ready for a change and that we will put the work in.  I believe they will tell us if we go ahead with the surgery or they they may give us recommendations if they feel we are not ready.  I can be wrong...that's just the impression I got.  I haven't heard from someone after their session but I would love to get your input after your appointment.

What have you been doing in preparation for it?  Exercise or food wise?

I have been doing the ww thing for years. I lost 130 lbs with that and kept it off for almost 10 years. I have gained about 40 lbs back over the last 3 years or so and no matter what I am doing now....it just seems such a struggle. I have always exercised. I walk about 4 km a day, which is not much but better than nothing. Food is definitely my biggest struggle. What have you been doing?

RNY on 01/23/12
I didnt attend a group session-just an appointment with Dr Vergis last August. He was looking for weight loss history/attempts/success, as well as some committment to exercise.  I still start every day on weigh****chers and have had relative success on it, but I told  him I cant deal with the struggle everday.  I told him I sporadically go to the Y and curves, and he said that based on this he feels I am a perfect candidate for the rny (which I am having Jan 16).  Hope this helps-good luck with your appointment---kj

VSG on 04/03/12
It wasn't a very long appointment - he looked at my diet and exercise journal. Talked about my history of dieting and my health history - I had also done a whole whack of research and am a nurse so I don't think he needed to go over a lot with me .i was on the fence with rny or vsg and he Rny couldn't make a bad decision - would be good for either but if I was looking for guidance he suggested the rny - less complications ( heartburn etc) and they know more about long term effectiveness ....

I got blood work , signed the consents , got an appointment with Laura ( which I needed to reschedule due to vacation stuff) . If I was going for vsg they would need to do a barium swallow .

I think I was in and out within half an hour.
