I did it. I have booked my VSG surgery for February 6 at Obesity Control Centre in Tijuana. I decided once and for all that spending the money is better than waiting to have it done here. I have filled out a questionnaire with a gazillion questions and have umpteen pages of instructions and information that I will no doubt have to read over ten times to get it all!

I also remembered that between my husband and myself we now have $1250 in Health Care Spending accounts, so that will help, on top of the credit I will get on income tax. (Part of the form that I signed said I agreed not to tell anyone how much I am paying for the surgery!! Oops...they should have told me that sooner if they cared that much.)

One day I will try to get to a meet & greet, but right now I'm working at home every spare minute I have in the evenings and on weekends (medical transcription) on top of working Monday to Friday.

Maybe there will be a few of us having surgery in February. I've read here that some of you other ladies are doing your preop consultations or have finished them or are going to the information session. Good luck to everybody that everything goes well for you.

We'll have to compare notes on our experiences in two different countries! I've read a lot of people's stories who say the care in Mexico is far better than what you get in a North American hospital. However, I've also been a patient in St. Boniface for breast reduction surgery and I thought the care was great.

Still kinda scary, but looking forward to the results.

and different provinces.... I'm headed to BC for my VSG since I did not qualify for MB. No complaints about having to leave for it.. I've gone from referral to sugery date set within a few months...

I've been to St B for a couple things, its care is good.

Oh!! Do you have to pay on your own? Or did you get a referral for Manitoba Health to pay?

Manitoba health will pay my sugical costs, transportation. It's all covered but a few expenses they won't and that is being taken care off gratefully by our other insurance plan.
