New here intro
I just wanted to introduce myself. I went to my family Dr today and asked for a referral.
I was afraid to ask in the first place, and have been lurking here to get as much information as I could before I went to the Dr. I anticipated the Dr to give me a hassle about it. At first, he told me that my BMI was too high, which I thought was really off, so I asked him to re weigh me and measure my height. I don't know if he put my weight or my height in the calculator wrong, but he had my BMI as 54 so I was SCARED!! I had calculated it at 41 based on the height on my driver's license and the last weight that I had taken of myself.
Long story short, after the reweigh and the height check, I am actually taller than I thought and a little bit less than the last time I was weighed. so my BMI is 38.7....
soooo YAY I qualify! My Dr said he was happy to give me a referral, and actually had his nurse start the process immediately.
As I have been reading, I suppose it will be a year before anything happens...I am excited, but nervous and still have about a million or so questions to ask. I have a professional career where I need to meet with clients everyday, while most of the time I am somewhat comfortable with myself and present myself in a professional manner, I know that people still look at me as the fat woman in their office and may question my competency. (I know that could just be my insecurities speaking, but hey... it's me)
I have tried all sorts of weight loss methods, programs etc... I have lost weight, and gained it all back again. I need a permanent solution to help me, and from what I have been reading I think this is the answer for me. I immediately teared up and started shaking uncontrollably when I left the dr's office, knowing that I have a referral and the first step is underway is pretty overwhelming!!!
Long intro I know....

Welcome to the MB forum justmest. I probably don't have to tell you how terrific and informative this website is....and all the peeps here are great! If it wasn't for OH and this forum I doubt I would be having WLS. It was exactly one year ago that I too went to my doctor for a referal and now I expect to have my surgery in the next month or so. As for the wait time, this past year has flown by so quickly for me and I know it will for you too.
Thanks for the Welcome Lori,. I woke up today happier than I have been in a long time.
I have only told my husband and a friend that JUST had the VSG last week and a girl at work who just recieved a letter from the surgeon.
So I guess the next step is getting a letter from the surgeon to say that my referral has been received.. Can't wait!

Welcome! As Lori said the site and the ladies are great, information flow freely and all questions are considered and any NSVs are appreciated. Not many are comfortable posting pics on this site so before and afters are rare but very much appreciated, especially for those of us who cannot attend the meet and greets (although I am hoping that I can line up with one in January). It's nice to put faces to names :)
I was referred in April and am attending the info session on Friday. I was prepared for a much longer wait but I do think it will be a year by the time there is "knife to skin" (an expression we use in our theater) The wait will seem endless, I am a huge whiner (as you can tell by my blogs) and impatient but now that things are happening, I feel better and the waiting will go fast.
Hang in there and don't be afraid to ask questions or drop tidbits of info.
