Lap-Band & Maples...NEWBIE

Hello all, I am new to Manitoba, and this forum.  I just moved here from NB, military family, and had just finally gotten approval for surgery in NB prior to moving.  It took 7 years there...
Once I got settled in, I took my approval to my new doctor, *****ferred me to Maples, and was lap-banded two days ago.

I realize that most here have had either the sleeve or RNY, but I am wondering if there are other lap-banders out there?  I was originally set for RNY in NB, but that was because of the nature of my job, and moving alot.  I had originally wanted the lap band, but at the time, fill follow-ups weren't as accessible.  I went back to lap-band once here, as there are more options and more pers trained for that sort of thing here than in NB.

I've read about a support group for those with WLS, and since I haven't met many pers yet here, would certainly love to talk to other ladies on this journey!  WLS is only a tool, and not a quick fix like so many seem to think, I've known quite a few *****gain all their weight, even with RNY or sleeve.  Thats what I'm scared of the most.  Although, my main goals to is be rid of my hypertension, and no longer be diabetic.  Losing the extra pounds is a bonus!  LOL. I want to be around to play with my grandchildren when those days come!

Thanks so much for all your courage in sharing your stories on here.  You are an inspiration for those of us who are a bit shy.  I know how hard the struggles can be, and some just don't get it, or why we decide on WLS to help us become healthy again.

All the best...
Laura

Hello, I remember you posting before. Will you be able to come to the meet and greet on Sunday?

Hey Laura!

Welcome! I mostly read & post on here, haven't been to a meet & greet yet or met any of these other ladies in person. I'm planning to have VSG in Mexico in February. However, I wanted to say a special hello because I lived in Oromocto for 6 years a LONG time ago (1978-1984). (I'm originally from Manitoba & haven't been a military spouse for almost 25 years.)

Glad to hear you've had your procedure and hope it works well for you.  Good luck!

HIi there, I was actually at the Maples on Tuesday meeting with Dr. Vergis. I am getting banded on Feb. 14. I would LOVE to talk to you. My email is [email protected]. Send me an email and I can reply from there or I can email you my phone number so we can chat. I am also going to be calling a woman who got banded from maples 3 years ago, lost 200 lbs! I got the number from the center so looking forward to talking to her. I am so excited that I found someone else who is banded! Hard to find anyone who has gotten it done

Wow...thanks so much for the welcome!  It certainly seems like a wonderful bunch of people here, and I have to admit, my first few months in MB haven't been the best...lol...

I would love to try to make the meet and greet this Sunday (Smittys 1-3 if I remember correctly).  It may depend on how I feel.  I'm still really sore, and my chest hurts quite a bit.  I haven't been out of the house since Tuesday when I got my surgery, other than to take my dog out for a "break".  Its really cold!!  I'm not quite used to that yet!

I've been puttering, my hubby got mad at me for doing dishes the morning after my surgery, but I took it really slow.  I know I need to be mobile sooner rather than later, to help heal, but rest is also good to heal too.  So I've been getting up in the morning when he goes to work, and my girl heads to school, and doing some "wandering", then heading back to bed before lunch for a nap.  Just taking Advil for pain now, tho they gave me plenty of Tylenol 3's.  Just takes forever to swallow any meds!

Thanks so much for the support, and if I can't make it this sunday, I will definately make it to the next meet & greet!

Warmest regards
Laura
