Met with Dr.Vergis today and had a nice, long chat. Looks like it's going to be Lap Band for...
Met with Dr. Vergis today at the Maples Surgical Center. Great doctor!! Sat down with me and answered all my questions, and there were a lot of them. I have decided to go ahead with the lap band. Although I would love to save myself the money, the time line is just something I cannot do. I want this weight problem to be gone. I am ready to take on the hard work and Dr. Vergis made me feel this is the best option for me at this time. Hope it's the right one!! He told me today that the time line from my physician sending the referral, to actually speaking with the surgeon, could take between 12-18 months if I decided on the gastric bypass program. Too long for me! I wish everyone luck with their journey! Looks like my surgery date is February 14. Meeting with psychologist on Tuesday, dietitian on the 20th, and then on my way to a healthier life!!!!
Congrats on your surgery date! What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day! As fullohope said we welcome all wls and look forward to joining us a one of our Meet and Greets. This is a wonderful group of ladies and everyone offers so much support to one another. Although we have different surgeries a lot of the information shared is helpful for all.

It is great that you decided on which option is for you. I know a girl who has lost a lot of weight with the lap band. I only have 1 question, how long can you keep the band before they have to remove it?
I look forward to meeting you at one of our meet and greats,
Mich
P.S. It is right on that you got to talk to Dr. V.

Dr. Vergis and Dr. Hardy did my surgery! Love them both!! Glad you made a decision. I understand totally where you are coming from. If Manitoba wouldn't have gotten this program going I would have went to Mexico to get mine done. I just mentioned Mexico to my family doc and she sent in my paper work VERY quickly..LOL
From what I understood when I was researching lapband it stays in for 10-15 yrs then they may have to replace it?...does that sound right?...I might be WAY off!..LOL it is meant to be a "permanent, reversable" procedure.

Thanks everyone. Dr. Vergis made me feel so comfortable about this. He sat down with me and answered all my questions and I did not feel rushed at all. This is meant to stay in forever. He said that their stats at the maples surgical center have been 9% that have been unsuccessful and had to be removed. It is meant to stay in forever. Still nervous, and praying I will not be part of that 9%, but I am soo excited to get on with this!
You will do awesome!! This board is full of helpful people and OH is a wealth of info too! WIN=WIN!! Glad it's meant to stay in forever! YAY! I also suspect that the 9% were non compliant with their program. Or if they did have issues, thery weren't asking for help. Our health is in our hands..ask the questions and get your answers! You already started off that way, so I am pretty sure you will do perfectly fine!!
So...Happy Valentine's day...REALLY REALLY EARLY!
