I even cut all my hair off....

A month and a half ago I had my first meeting with Dr. Vergis and was so excited the day was finally here to start my journey towards a better me.   But because I had such a  sedentary  lifestyle (desk job during the day, professional TV watcher by night) he insisted I start exercising and lose 15 lbs before I proceeded with the program.  I left devastated.

A week after the meeting I made the decision to join a gym and have been going faithfully for 5 weeks now.  I get up at 5:30 every morning before work (mon-fri) and am on the gym floor by shortly after 6am.  I do notice a small change in the way my clothes fit but the numbers on the scale just aren't moving fast enough.

Usually when I start working out I can drop 10 lbs pretty quickly but this time I just can't seem to gain any ground.  I only have 11 more days before I see Dr. Vergis again and I'm scared to death I won't have lost all the weight he wanted me to and my surgery will be delayed yet another few months.

I'm down 8 or 9 lbs but it's a far cry from 15 and I only have 11 days left.   (I even cut all my long hair off... well, I was going to do that anyways but I thought maybe it would help.  It didn't.  Blahhah)

Any suggestions!?

I would think with working out that much you've probably lost a few inches and gained a few pounds of muscle.  Perhaps the others on here that were told to lose weight could give some insight on how strict the surgeons are when it comes to pre-op weight loss.  I have 20 days until I see the nutritionist and I have only lost 3 pounds.  I was told to lose 10.  I too have been exercising and my clothes sure feel better and so do I, but you'd never know it by the scale.  Last week I bought a case of protien shakes.  I've decided that as of Monday I will be using them as meal replacements along with one no-carb low calorie meal per day.  Carbs are my enemy.  I also found out that my thyroid is once again out of whack and my doc recently increased my medication.  I'm having such a tough time losing weight I sometimes wonder if WLS is even going to work.

if your willing to try meal replacement shakes, i recommend the fit smart shakes aka the fibre 35 diet. each shake has 15g of protien and 10g of fibre. the more shakes you have the more you lose! i typically have 4 to 5 shakes a day to get the 35g minimum of fibre then just a reasonable supper of about 500 cal, i use skim milk in my shakes so they are 250cal each( with the milk its actually 26g of protein), so im getting about 1500 cal a day, ive managed to lose 55lbs this way. hopefully the doctors will give me credit for this weight loss and not make me try and lose more!
best of luck you guys!

I had to do this also and I know exactly how heart wrenching it can be. I say yes you can lose the rest of the weight in time. When trying to lose to be accepted I kept a very large pot of cabbage soup in the fridge. I used the recipe online for the cabbage soup diet. I did not do the cabbage soup diet because none of these fad diets ever work. I ate the soup at every meal. I had it before anything else. If I wanted a snack throughout the day I had soup. I also cut the carbs and didn't eat in the evening. I also went to the Y for aquasizes and the treadmill.  It was difficult but I made it! Also watch your sodium intake because for me it makes me retain water which adds weight. Good luck!

I have heard of people doing U Weight Loss or a cleansing regime. I would advocate high protein and low carb. It really works.  My mother was very sick with a bariatric associated illness, I put her on the diet and she lost 26lbs in 2 weeks!!!!  Give it a try.  I had my surgery 9 months ago and I still eat this way.  Anyways, Good Luck!  You can do it!
