Day 5 Post Op
Things seem to be going well. Have been sleeping at night no problem and have not taken any pain medication. Don't really have any pain at all just a little tightness at the top incision but I'm assuming it's cause it's the biggest and has the most pressure at that point. Only tend to have one little nap in the after and otherwise I'm not that tred.
I am getting in my fluids but cannot seem to get my protein shakes in no matter what I have tried. In the last couple days I have tried over 8 kinds and they all just make me nauseous and want to gag. Have been having jello, broth, apple juice and sugar free popsicles. Not sure what to do as I know I need my protein but just can't get the shakes done.

Hi!
Glad to hear your on the mend and then some. I mean it's only been a few days and it sounds like your doing great.
Sorry, I can't help you at this point about the protein, but I have a feeling I'll be in the same boat as you as I can barely handle the shakes now let alone the post surgery. Did you happen to buy a protein powder? I picked up a container of Beneprotein from the Tache pharmacy and supposedly it has no real flavor and you can mix it into soup, etc. Maybe try that, but what do I know I haven't experienced it yet.
I was wondering about the juice. I saw in the handbook we're allowed it but was wondering since a cup has so many calories. I figured cuz it's a natural sugar it should be fine. Good to know you're having it too. Tomorrow I plan to do my big shop for me and the family. Not sure when I'll be able to grocery shop next and if my husband goes we'll have everything but what we actually need.
Keep up the great work!

Have you tried going to Popeye's? They let you try the protein powders in store. They have juices (Syntrex) that aren't thick like the shakes. I tried about a dozen before I found one that I liked. The first time I was there I bought 2 different flavours, and found that once I got home couldn't stand the taste of one. They let me return the bottle and I got a complete refund. I had taken 3 scoops out of the bottle.
You sound like you are doing well. I've had the reverse problem you are having. I can get in my protein but getting in enough water is difficult. When I was on full liquids and pureed I used a lot of unflavored protein powder. I added extra to my boost, a spoon or two to my yogurt, my soups, anything soft enough to mix it into. I read on here where someone recommended taking a scoop of unflavored protein powder and leaving it in a bowl on the counter and adding it throughout the day to what you can. As each scoop is 25 or more grams of protein it is a good portion of your daily intake requirement. I also drink the premier protein shakes from costco with 30 grams of protein. I add a cup of milk for another 8 grams of protein. I also picked up greek yogurt in Grand Forks and I think it had about 14 grams per 6 ounces. My pouch just hasn't liked it very much since I was about 4-5 weeks out. I really started paying close attention to labels. There is a lot of protein in many things. When you are further out you will find it easier with more choices.
