post op consult

I had my post op appt with the surgeons yesterday. The resident led most of the appt and then Dr. Hardy came in (I guess Dr. Vergis was away).
They were so pleased...My BMI went down 6 points!! Their goal is 4 more...My goal is 8 more!!
THey gave me the okay to start cardio. I'm anxious to start running again! Hopefully I can start training in January for the relay...Who's in with me? The shortest 'leg' is 4.6 miles (I think). I would ask to do the first leg b/c I want to continue on to do the half. We'll have to get a group of OHers cheering us on...strategically placed on the marathon route! Then a big celebration afterwards!
So tonight, I'm going to start interval running....one minute run, one minute walk. Hopefully by Christmas, I'll be up to my usual (and by usual, I mean 10 years ago) 10 minutes run, 2 minutes walk.
On another note...I'm in a HORRIBLE stall!! I went up 2 pounds and have stayed there for over a week. AHHH!!! So this 'exercise' thing may be just the thing to get me out of this. I'm no longer getting in my protein...the shakes and I are NOT friends...just can't do it any more ladies. They make me nauseous...no matter how I "dress" them up.
Take care!

What great news TotalKa_os.  Sounds like you are doing great.

I'd be in for doing the Marathon with you but I am thinking I might attempt to run the half as well.  Actually really miss not getting to the gym this week, it's like I'm on withdrawl.  Am going to go next week just to walk cause I miss my gym buddies as well.  Once i get the okay I will then start my training again.

So when is the running club starting, where are you running, can anyone join?

Run a minute and walk a minute for how many minutes total????  I guess the first night is for 2 minutes?? Then night 2 is relax, because you can move??

I do not know if I could do it, but I would sure have fun trying.

I'd love it if both of you joined me in this goal! Last night was my first 'stab' at running. I did 2 minutes run, 2 minutes walk for about 20 minutes. Then I tried 3 mins on 2 mins off for the last 10 minutes. I felt really good after.
Since 3 minutes run, 2 mins walk felt okay, I'm going to try that today. I'm going to research some 'half marathon training programs' and 'relay' programs and I'll post what I find.
My secretary's husband is a marathoner...has done 50! He told me that he always runs for 9 minutes, walks for 1. He says that's the best thing for your heart...to get it high, then low again, then high, then low. He told me that running straight through is not very healthy, and that you also need to give yourself that minute to hydrate, etc.
Yesterday I just ran on my treadmill. I'd love to run outside with a partner once in awhile though. Too bad winter is just around the corner!
My pace is realy slow...last night I was only doing a 13 minute mile...my goal is 11. I used to do 10 so maybe I'll achieve that again.
I tried running before surgery...I could only do about 30 secs...so I'm so pumped with 3 minutes!
Michelle, it's hard at first...especially if you've never ran before. But just start with a minute on, a minute off and gradually build up from there. Don't give up...after 2 weeks, it'll be so much easier! And you are carrying SO much less weight than I am...I'm still at 220...so you'll probably find it easier.

It depends...if my hubby can watch the kids, I'll run around 7 or 8 (if he can stop them from climbing all over the treadmill...especially the 17 month old)!
I haven't run yet today...just got home from dinner with friends...debating whether to watch 'The Good Wife' with some apple tea or run?!
If the weather is nice this week, and you feel like getting together, let me know. I teach piano every day until 6 or 6:30 but after that, I'm good to go. Thursday I'm at a party.
I can't wait until I'm at 193...good for you!!!
