Hi Ladies,
So, I got the call today with a date! Super excited, it's like winning the lottery!....but...there's always a but. Here's my "date" dilemma. Seven weeks after the surgery date (gastric bypass) my family and I will be going away on a holiday for 3 weeks doing Disney and alot of traveling around in general. I'm worried how much I'll be able to heal in those 7 weeks and what types of foods or consistency I'm going to be able to eat at. Just to remind you since I'm new here I have 2 little ones who need help getting in and out of the rides and I'll be living out of hotels so I wont have my kitchen to be able to prep my foods.
For those of you who have had the surgery, do you feel from your own experiences that I'll be ready for a major 3 week trip only 7ish weeks out?
I have only a day to make my decision otherwise I have to pass on my "date" and wait until after the New Year.
Thanks!
J.

That is great news about your surgery date.  You must be support excited.

That is a great question and I don't have many answers for you but am in the same situation but will only be gone about 5 days.  I just found out that I am going to Cancun for work in December which is 6 weeks after my surgery.

disney has lots of healthy options.take your time.when your tired sit.there are food carts everywhere and they usually have something for everyone.when you go to the resturants(sitdown)tell the wait staff and they will get the chef to come out and talk to you and find out what they can make for you.my son has a limited diet and they accomidated him at every resturant some went out of their way to get what he could eat.congrats on the date.if you get tired they also rent scooters there.
as for it being to early well thats your call but i went camping 4 weeks after with my family.i just took it easy when i was tired i rested.depending on your schedule take a afternoon and just sit by the pool.if you are staying on site the rooms usually have fridges and there is a store in the main house.they sell yogurt, and other rny friendly foods.
i hope this helps

Hi!! CONGRATULATIONS ON GETTING A DATE!!! WHOO HOO!!!
I'm not sure what kind of surgery you're having, but I had the RNY and I feel absolutely fantastic for only 3 weeks out.
I walk every day...now I'm up to about 3 miles at one time. My hubby and I are doing lots of out door activites with the kids...corn maze, boo at the zoo (this Friday), etc. I do sit after awhile (maybe 30 minutes) but only need a few minute break.
I'm still eating lots of soft, pureed things and soups (but I'm meeting with Laura this week and hopefully she'll "promote" me to REAL food!
I think for 7 weeks out you'll be okay. I have a ton of energy and I'm able to take care of my 2 kids quite well. I have a 17 month old and a 3 year old. I couldn't lift them for the first couple of weeks but now, no problemo...no pain or anything.
I say...TAKE YOUR SURGERY DATE!!!

Yes, congrats on getting a date!  You must be thrilled!  I'm sure you'll be fine if you decide to take the date, but if not, I'll gladly take your place on the operating room table. On a side note,  I'm still scratching my head wondering how I can get a job like Charleen's that takes you to Cancun in December.

yipppeeee!!!!
so excited for you!!!!!!!!

and i can honestly say that at 7 weeks out, I was feeling FANTASTIC!!!
and i could have done a trip like that.

by 7 weeks you will be comfortable with what you can & can not eat,
and you will already be making your choices wisely.
and it's nice that a place like Disney has SO much food to choose from.

wish i could come with you!!!

:)

I say YAY for the date and YES GO ON THE TRIP!!! :) I did New Years camping 4 weeks out. My hubby took me for a snowmobile ride..even without the surgery people wonder why I let my husband drive me around like a lunatic. I went and had a blast! No problems with food either. I had my shakes daily and ate what the camp kitchen was serving up. I had energy galore! Went swimming with the kids. Would have went ice skating but it was FREEZING! :)

Great news on your date.  This is so coincendental!  I went to Disney 6 weeks after my surgery (this past March), and it was fine!  I walked alot, didn't eat very much, got on rides,  it was all good! Go and enjoy!
