I'm Home!

I was sprung last night! It felt good being able to sleep through the night without so many interruptions. After sleeping 13 hours I woke up groggy. I am really missing that oxygen. I will now eventually go for a sleep study to see if I have sleep apnea. If I do Dr. Andrews did say it will probably resolve itself after the weight comes off. Makes me wonder now if my exhaustion is Fibro related or not. I wake up groggy everyday and have done so for years. As I am not much of a snorer it was never thought that I had sleep apnea. On Monday I will phone and book my follow up appointments with both surgeon and NUT. I'm supposed to see her in 6 weeks but I doubt that will even be possible with her schedule.

I've been up and walking since the evening of surgery and I just can't get that gas to move out of me. I think it could be my biggest discomfort right now. I do have a lot of pain in my upper incision areas but hopefully in a couple of days I get a bit more relief. Dr. Andrew did not prescribe any extra pain killers for me at home. He told me that in giving me T3's he may as well give me a placebo. He instead suggested I add in a couple extra of my daily, current codeine contin that I take for my Fibromyalgia. Swallowing 4-5 codeine at once is not easy. I sure took it for granted before how I could just toss back a handfull of meds. I made that mistake once yesterday when I put all my codeine in my mouth. Thankfully I did not swallow them. I spit them out and proceeded in swallowing one at a time. It is going to be be quite a chore getting in all my meds and vitamins.

I am really very thirsty, how do I know if I am drinking too much water? I feel like I could just gulp down a whole bottle but to remain safe I keep pouring myself one ounce shots and taking it slow. How do I know when it's too much? Can I drink too much water?

So far I've had water, broths, juice, boost (the resource at the hopsital is so gross) and jello (hospital jello was gross too). I would love to have something like yogurt of applesauce. Is it too soon for something like this or should I wait until next week?

I'm full of questions now but will post more as I remember them. I tire quickly right now. I started this post at noon then lost it and had to rewrite it. Computers are so much fun sometimes.

YAA HOOOO!! Can you believe it? Surgery is done.
I don't think you can ever drink to much water, measure and make sure you get your 8 cups in, some days I have 12. I had apple sauce in the hospital with my pills, but I had VSG, so I don't want to give the wrong advice.
If you are thirsty that means you need to drink more. Sip sip sip.
So glad everything went well

Well hopefully you are feeling a bit better. Your body will definitely tell you when too much is too much. Hopefuly the pain is less and you are moving a bit more. Take care. I wish I could help you out in the food department, my surgery was in Alberta so my regime was different. My favorite thing was cream of tomato and potatoe soup in the first weeks.

It was so warm outside yesterday and of course the kids didn't think to turn the air back on. I think it is why I was so thirsty. I've been up since about 11 this morning and have only managed about 20 oz of liquid. Of that one 237ml of chocolate boost with added unflavored protein. Still loving my chocolate!  I have to constantly remind myself to keep the fluids going in. I've been drinking water and broth too, love the broth. It's going to be a huge accomplishment when I am finally able to get my daily protein requirements in. I may try to add unflavored protein powder to my broth too. Has anyone tried this? My pain is better today but I sure do get stiff, I'm also taking extra codeine. I sure hope one day I am healthy enough to get off of it completely as it sure causes a lot of problems when you need pain relief for something else other than chronic pain. I am so thankful for such beautiful weather. I do get outside a few times a day for short walks. I also managed to drive 5km to the corner store today for a few needed items. I just drove really slow. It will be quite a while before I can go further. My daily routine is sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk and nap, nap, nap....

So happy to hear that your surgery is done and  that you are now at home.  Excited that you are now on the losers bench.  Can't wait for it to be my turn.  :  )

Thanks so much for the updates, they are so very helpful to know what others have gone through and experienced.
