Had my Barium Swallow this morning......

So it wasn't so bad after all.  They make you wait longer than the test actually takes.  For those of you who haven't had this done yet it's actually very simple.  They make you change into those very sexy hospital gowns then ask you to swallow these granules that have a bit of a sore taste.  The best part is the tablespoon of water you get to have with them, like that is going to wa**** down.  They make you feel like you need to burp but you aren't suppose to.  Of course they make it sound so easy.  The doctor then came in and explained a bit of what he was going to do then they had me stand on this table that moves.  Now for the worst part, while standing they make you drink 2/3 of the most chalky tasting stuff, it wasn't too bad but was so thick.  While you are drinking they take the photos and ask you to move around.  The table then lays you flat and while laying down you are suppose to finish the rest of your yummy drink with a straw.  Not so easy.  Now for the part that makes you feel so silly, they make you roll around on the table.  I totally think the doctor and techs are just laughing in their heads about you because I'm sure I looked so stupid.  Maybe after surgery it will be easier but a fat person rolling on this little table, yeah right.

One more step down and now only two weeks till my appointment with Laura then hopefully a date.

OMG I hated that table..LOL I guess it didn't help that I was barely24hrs out of surgery when they made me do it.. At least you weren't sore..I was FAT, STONED on Morphine, REALLY sore and rather disgruntled..LOL GOOD TIMES!! My porter also had a cold and I was terrified of catching it from him!! Having to sneeze or cough post op was NOT my idea of a fun time, thankfully I didn't catch his cooties..blech!

Can't wait to have you on the losers bench!!

Any medical staff that laughs at patients..SUCK and they will get their payback...MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I had my barium swallow this morning and you pretty much described it dead on.  Thankfully I didn't have to sip any of that chalk through the straw while laying down.  I guess the chugs I took while standing up were big enough.  I was able to drink at least 3/4's of it.  Those granules weren't pleasant...actually none of it was..but I thought it would be worse.  The rolling around wasn't bad except I thought the lovely hospital gown and robe were going to fly open and expose my rolls!  lol

It was quick and painless.  The actual test only took 10 minutes.  The assistant told me that they are doing at least 2 a day for people who are having WLS.  Glad it's done.  Now I have to wait 6 weeks to see Laura.  Slowly but surely I'll get there.
