I was just wondering when doing the meditrim prep before surgery...does it HAVE to be meditrim or can we choose our own protein bars and shakes....ex. Costco premium protein bars/shakes?

The nutritionist is pretty adamant about our using MediTrim. The only exception seems to be if you have an allergy to any of the ingredients. However, she is not keen on our coming up with our own pre-op diet.

I was told that the reason we must use the Meditrim is to reduce the size of our livers by 50% prior to surgery.  I assumed that Meditrim is specially designed for this purpose.

Hi, thanks for the info. Makes sense. I noticed you are getting the RNY on the 18th....may I asked when you were referred?

Any low-fat, low-carb diet will shrink your liver. So in theory, it is possible to use other products or even do this by eating real food. But we are instructed to use MediTrim because of its high protein and nutritional content.

I was referred in June of 2010 - had my consult in mid April 2011.  Things have just gone by so fast since then!  Can't believe I am only one week away!  Yesterday was a tough one on the Medi-trim.  I attended a baptism for my Godson and helped make a variety of my favourite foods for the dinner we held at my parent's place later.  There were 2 buffet tables full of every thing you can imagine, but I managed to walk away with 2 cups worth of cucumber, tomatoes, celery and mushrooms to eat with my peanut butter medi-trim bar.  Man that was rough!
