NUT booking into October

When I met with the Dr she said it looked like I would be having surgery in the fall - I'm not so sure now with a 4 month wait for a dietician appointment :(

Four months is 1/2 as long as the wait to see the surgeon, it seems crazy...

That is absolutely crazy.  You expect that from our medical system when you have to wait to see a doctor or for a test but not from a dietician.  It's not like there is a shortage of them.  Really hope that this improves before it gets worse.

Besides training is something else holding us up?

Since this is something that we self pay for, you would think that more nuts would be trying to get on board with this by doing maybe evening consults or weekends.  Surely there are some young ambitious nuts who want to do a little OT.  We are (WLS patients) a little something different for them besides the usual DM and MI patients - lol.

It is crazy.
And when I met with the nutrition she was disappointed that we all had to wait so long too. She has a family with young children and is working more hours then she even would like to trying to get all of us in.  Hopefully there will be more nuts willing to step in.

Make sure you do mention that you would be available for a cancellation appointment.  When I told her that, I got in the next day because of a cancellation otherwise I would be still waiting as well.

I did not find her helpful at all. Maybe she has gotten more training since the last time I saw her and may be more knowledgable. I was told that she was only available on Wednesday afternoons and that was it. I told them that I would not be taking time off work to go see someone who I didn't find useful to me. It is too bad that there are not more NUTS in this program.
In my opinion, after surgery (or before) everyone should go see someone. Since it is "medically nessasary" to be under the care of some sort of NUT after surgery maybe we can get referrals from our family doctors to see a dietician that is local to everyone's homes. I go and see a personal dietician and she has been very helpful with her information from the bariatric center in Alberta. She hasn't had any issues getting information from them or gathering info for me to help me in everyday life and she is already thinking of ideas and meal plans for when I am in my maitanance phase.

If it is taking this long to get an appointment to see the nut, what are the requirements immediately following surgery for seeing her?  Do I need to book something now if I need to see her within a certain time frame of the operation?  I better get my question list ready and call Andrea again.

I would call Andrea and book an appointment with Laura as soon as possible.

A dream come true!

Well I have some good news - the NUT added some additional days in September so I can see her early Sept instead of October.

It still seems like a long time to wait but I'm less freaked out than I was earlier :)

Also - Michelle you look great in your picture.  Very healthy.  That probably sounds creepy but I lurked in the forum for a long time before I started posting and I just wanted to say you seem like you're doing really well!
